GENEVA COUNTY – HARTFORD: 05:07 AM Parent or Parents had a firearm under the pillow and a three ( 3 ) year old was able to get firearm. An apparent self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
In Geneva County, at 5:07 AM, ALL SYSTEMS WERE IN PLACE and worked as designed.
The Geneva County 911 took the call andn obtained the information and rolled emergency units. A Geneva County Deputy Sheriff, a former Marine, rolled swiftly. The Geneva County Sheriff Deputy had a trauma kit and applied the immediate life saving measures.
Slocomb Fire – Rescue Chief Kyle Hovey was at the Slocomb Fire Station at 5:07 AM running the tower. That is literally “running” as in exercising. A off duty Dothan Fire Paramedic, who works with Slocomb Fire – Rescue rolled with Chief Kyle Hovey.
Slocomg Fire – Rescue Operations Chief Brandon Hovey came flying out of bed and rolled very swiftly. As Brandon Hovey rolled in the patient was loaded in the ambulance. Brandon leaps from one vehicle into the back of the amulance. Also in the ambulance was the Geneva County Sheriff Deputy who jumped into the ambulance.
The Slocmb Fire – Rescue was on the scene for 1 minute or less when they had the child loaded and rolling to Flowers Hospital.
Dothan Police Department learned of the call and was in a position to intercept the ambulance and run ahead clearing the roadway so there was no delays for the ambulance. Clearing traffic and intersections so the Slocomb Fire – Rescue ambulance never had to slow down.
On arrival at Flowers Hospital the trauma team and emergency room staff were in place and immediately began treatment of this precious three year old child. This was a 40 calibar weapon gunshot wound. Children’s Hospital was contacted and the child was transported, unknown if ground or air, to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
THIS WAS A GREAT TEAM. Beginning with the Geneva County 911 dispatcher, to the Geneva County Sheriff Deputy, to Slocomb Fire – Rescue, Dothan Police Department, Flowers Hospital, and then to Children’s Hospital.
