Adrienne Reid, the mother charged in connection with the disappearance of her 2-year-old daughter, has hired a well-known defense attorney who is now fighting to have her $1 million bond reduced.
Court records show attorney David Harrison filed paperwork notifying the court he will represent Reid. Within moments, he submitted a motion asking the judge to significantly lower her bond, calling the current amount “extraordinarily high.”
Harrison argued that the $1 million cash-only bond is excessive and effectively serves as punishment, despite what he describes as limited evidence against his client.
Reid, 33, is charged with false reporting to law enforcement after telling police her daughter, Genesis Reid, disappeared from their home on February 16. Despite an extensive search effort, the toddler has not been located. Authorities have not named Reid a suspect in her daughter’s disappearance.
However, Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox asked District Judge Josh Wilson to set a $1 million cash-only bond, citing concerns that Reid could be a flight risk. The typical bond for a charge of false reporting would normally be no more than $15,000.
Harrison strongly disputes that Reid poses a threat to the community or is likely to flee. If the motion to reduce bond is denied in district court, he is expected to take the matter before a circuit judge.
“I’m tired of seeing people assuming this woman is guilty with all their social media posts,” Harrison said.
In addition to seeking bond reduction, Harrison has filed for a pretrial hearing that would require law enforcement to disclose certain aspects of their investigation. A hearing date has not yet been set.
The investigation into the disappearance of Genesis Reid remains ongoing. Authorities continue to ask anyone with credible information to contact law enforcement.
