Various Wiregrass rescue services are working several wrecks at the moment.

We’ve already heard reports from MULTIPLE wrecks around the Wiregrass. We are working to identify exact locations.

STAY HOME unless you absolutely MUST be on the roads.

Currently, it seems there have been around 30 wrecks/cars slid off roads.

Bridges are icing over and cars are beginning to slide.

At least two emergency response vehicles were briefly stuck in ice/snow.

You need to STAY OFF THE ROADS. ONLY travel if it’s absolutely an emergency.

City of Dothan winter storm updates: rec centers closed

The City of Dothan encourages everyone to stay off the roads today. Read other updates below:

• Due to increased forecasted snowfall amounts (potentially up to 6”), the City of Dothan will close City Offices on Wednesday, January 22nd. Essential personnel will remain on-duty for the public’s safety.
• With the closing of City Offices, the City of Dothan will also close all recreation centers. These centers, which served as warming stations during normal operating hours, will now be closed. If you need shelter from the extreme cold weather conditions, First Baptist Church is operating a warming station. For more information, please contact 2-1-1.
• Dothan Utilities encourages customers to not overload electrical circuits during this time.
Please refrain from operating high electrical demand appliances during this period of extremely cold winter weather.
• Environmental Services (Garbage and Recycling Service) – Regular garbage and recycling routes will run today, Tuesday, January 21st. With the impending snow and ice that is anticipated in Dothan, Wednesday’s normal routes will be moved to Friday, January 24th. There may be delays this week, so please be patient with your residential service.
• City of Dothan personnel are monitoring local street conditions. It may become necessary to close local streets. This determination will be made later today. Roadways should be kept clear so emergency personnel and essential employees may travel safely to their places of employment. PLEASE stay off the roadways and be mindful of those who absolutely need to be out during this weather event.

Stolen South Alabama Speedway pace car recovered

Stolen South Alabama Speedway pace car recovered

South Alabama Speedway’s stolen pace car was recovered and a man was arrested for the theft.

The pace car was found behind a residence off Highway 189, just three miles from the track. When officers arrived, the suspect ran away.

Covington County K-9 units tracked the suspect 4.5 miles and found him near Highway 52.

Kinston Police, Opp Police, Florala Police, Coffee County Sheriffs, Covington County Sheriffs, ALEA, and Alabama Fish and Game helped with the investigation.
