DOTHAN: Today Dothan Municipal Clerk Wendy Shiver filed a Petition on Houston County Circuit Court concerning ballots.
The action filed IN THE MATTER OF THE 2025 ELECTIONS in Houston County Circuit Court, Case Number CV-2025-58.
In certain instances a voter in Alabama can be required to cast a “provisional ballot” pursurant to Code of Alabama 17-10-1. Certain guidelines are to be followed where the ballot is secret and are to be placed in certain envelopes to maintain secret ballots. The Dothan Municipal Clerk states in her petition “upon information an dbelief, poll workers improperly placed the PB-3 form into the PB-2 envelope with the PB-1 envelope by mistake and error.
The Dothan City Clerk further stated ” Alabama law provides for the Houston County Board of Registrars to validate all provisional ballots received durig each election”. And Alabama law gives definitive deadlines for the process of validation.
The Dothan Municipal Clerk ask the court to authorize and direct the City Clerk of the City of Dothan, Alabama to: (1) UNSEAL ad OPEN any provisional PB-2 envelope and to INSPECT said PB-2 envelope and REMOVE any provisional ballot verification statements ( Form PB-3 ) or any improperly placed materials that may be contained therein; (2) IMMEDIATELY DELIVER any provisional ballot verification statements ( Form PB-3 ) found within the said provisional PB-2 envelopes tp the Houston County Board of Registers upon retrieval of the same; (3) RE-SEAL AND OTHERWISE CLOSE AND SECURE the said provisional PB-2 envelope after the provisional ballot verification statement ( Form PB-3 ) has been located and retrieved as specified herin; Petitioner prays for such other, further and different releief as may be appropriate, premises considered”
The case was assigned to 20th Judicial Circuit Judge John John Steensland, who entered a order as follows:
“That as soon as practical PB-2 envelopes for any precint where there is i,properly placed materials shall be openbed by the City Clerk of the City of Dothan, Alabama for the purposeof locating and withdrawing ( if located ), any provisional ballot verification statement ( Form PM-3 ) or i,properly placed materials that are needed in order for the Houston County Board of Registrars to complete the provisional ballot verification process by the statutory deadline referenced herein”. The order further grants the requests of the Dothan Municipal Clerk.
DOTHAN: In the court case scheduled before the Honorable Todd Derrick in Houston County Circuit Court concerning the injunction filed against the Dothan School Board by Rickey Stokes.
The case was scheduled for Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 2:30 PM in Houston County Courthouse.
The case has been continued until August 15, 2025.
The case stems from the current board, which 4 of the current sitting board members did not seek re-election on Tuesday August 5, are doing all within their power to sit a new Superintendent before the the new board takes office in October.
This board has a contract in hand for 5 years at or near $ 300,000.00 per year. The school board’s own association does not recommend over a three year contract. Several of these school board members have entered into three contracts which had to be bought out.
In other words they paid three past Superintendents lots of money to do nothing because of the lucrative contracts they gave. It is real easy to do when using OPM ( Other People’s Money ). And Brett Strickland, Melanie Hill, Franklin Jones and Brenda Guilford are using OPM – Other People’s Money which is your money.
The Dothan City Manager has a three years contract at $ 225,000.00.
The four above named Dothan School Board Members want a 5 year contract which will be past the next election.
Next week the case will be before 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Todd Derrick who was appointed as a Judge. Judge Todd Derrick will make the final decision on the $ 1.5 million dollars.
PLEASE DO NOT BLAME ME IF THESE FOUR BOARD MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED TO BIND THE DOTHAN CITY SCHOOLS TO A FIVE YEAR CONTRACT WORTH ABOUT $ 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS.
Rickey Stokes has tried to do something because I do not care if they like me or not. But remember, when officials, Dothan Area Chamber of Commerces, say Houston County has the lowest property tax and the school’s need more money, just call it like it is … the proof is in the actions and you are lying!!!
