DOTHAN: In the court case scheduled before the Honorable Todd Derrick in Houston County Circuit Court concerning the injunction filed against the Dothan School Board by Rickey Stokes.
The case was scheduled for Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 2:30 PM in Houston County Courthouse.
The case has been continued until August 15, 2025.
The case stems from the current board, which 4 of the current sitting board members did not seek re-election on Tuesday August 5, are doing all within their power to sit a new Superintendent before the the new board takes office in October.
This board has a contract in hand for 5 years at or near $ 300,000.00 per year. The school board’s own association does not recommend over a three year contract. Several of these school board members have entered into three contracts which had to be bought out.
In other words they paid three past Superintendents lots of money to do nothing because of the lucrative contracts they gave. It is real easy to do when using OPM ( Other People’s Money ). And Brett Strickland, Melanie Hill, Franklin Jones and Brenda Guilford are using OPM – Other People’s Money which is your money.
The Dothan City Manager has a three years contract at $ 225,000.00.
The four above named Dothan School Board Members want a 5 year contract which will be past the next election.
Next week the case will be before 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Todd Derrick who was appointed as a Judge. Judge Todd Derrick will make the final decision on the $ 1.5 million dollars.
PLEASE DO NOT BLAME ME IF THESE FOUR BOARD MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED TO BIND THE DOTHAN CITY SCHOOLS TO A FIVE YEAR CONTRACT WORTH ABOUT $ 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS.
Rickey Stokes has tried to do something because I do not care if they like me or not. But remember, when officials, Dothan Area Chamber of Commerces, say Houston County has the lowest property tax and the school’s need more money, just call it like it is … the proof is in the actions and you are lying!!!

As RSN wrote yesterday, Dothan Mayor and Associate Commissioners have no control over the Dothan City Schools. They provide some funding and services but the Dothan City Commission and Mayor are a totally different entity then the Dothan School Board.
RSN SUGGESTIONS FOR DOTHAN MAYOR AND ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONERS
MAYOR – Mark Saliba
D1 ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – Kevin Dorsey
D2 ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – Phillip Kirksey
D3 ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – Bradley Bedwell
D4 ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER – Josh Chapman or Dave Stock. They both seem to be good men. I have provided you with their last message before the election in another article. Each has their points but both have hearts of service.
RSN SUGGESTIONS FOR DOTHAN SCHOOL BOARD CHAIRMAN AND SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS
BRENDA GUILFORD AND FRANKLIN JONES – time to vote out of office!!!
First let me say, Incumbent School Board Members Brenda Guilford and Franklin Jones need to be voted out. They have chosen three Dothan Superintendent’s of which you the voters were forced to spend over 100,000.00 to buy out their contracts. It is time for these two board members to be removed.
MIKE SCHIMTZ AND SCOTT CHILDERS
Two men that I respect have made recommendations and I am going to give their recommendations. Those two men are Dothan Businessman Mike Schmitz and Dothan Businessman and current School Board Chairman Scott Childers.
MIKE SCHMITZ ENDORSEMENTS: Mike Schmitz said LEADERSHIP!!! Mike Schmitz makes the following endorsements in the Tuesday, Augustan election. For Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba needs to be re-elected. And Mr. Schmitz recommends Wes Grant for Chairman of Dothan School Board.
SCOTT CHILDERS ENDORSEMENTS: Chairman Scott Childers ask to trust his recommendations and hold him responsible: Childers believes the below named candidates will put students first in their decisions which will keep great teachers in Dothan City Schools.

SCHOOL BOARD DISTRICT 2: Justice ( JT ) Black
SCHOOL BOARD DISTRICT 3: Jason Fails
SCHOOL BOARD DISTRICT 5: Ashley Davis
