ASHFORD: 8:41 PM Houston County 911 dispatched a train verses vehicle accident on old Highway 84 across from Summerford Pallet Company in Ashford.
Ashford and Headland had been playing football and the game was cancelled due to the weather. A mom and child were leaving the game when collided with the train.
Reports are a mother and child in the vehicle. There was entrappment. The patients were extricated and transported emergency, trauma alert, by Ashford Rescue.
Ashford Police Chief Melvin Anderson and members of Ashford Police Department, three ambulances from Ashford Rescue, and Ashford Fire were on the scene, Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Kinsey Police Department.
Ashford Police are in charge of the accident investigation.
This accident was just east of the location of vehicle verses train earlier this week.

The injuries are reported not to be life threatening. Both patients were transported under trauma alert due to the mechanism of injuries.
Ashford City Councilman/Ashford Mayor Elect Blake Rosenkoetter was on the scene. After patients gone and things calmed down, Rosenkoetter, Ashford Police Chief Melvin Anderson and a member from the railroad were in a brief discussion of what could be done. This is the second accident in four days.
At the time of the accident there was a lot of activity. The ballgame had been called due to weather, there was bad weather and a lot fo movement from traffic.
REMEMBER – STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN before crossing a railroad. Also be aware you could think you are fully stopped but actually be creeping forward instead of stopped. Always be mindful when approaching railroad crossings. Not all have stop bars and that is the reason rules of the road are STOP – LOOK and LISTEN.
HOUSTON COUNTY: 12:40 PM Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched a critical motor vehicle accident on Highway 52 East at Buie Road.
Buie Road intersects HIghway 52 on the east side of Webb, the east side of Highway 55 intersection.
ALEA – Troopers, Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Columbia Police, and Columbia Rescue responded. One person, a male subject, was unresponsive but breathing. There was a female passenger in the vehicle. Both were transported emergency, trauma alert, to Southeast Health.
As law enforcement officers began the investigation it was determined, there was a domestic altercation in progress in the vehicle. The driver is alleged to have began driving erratic, ran off the road and overturned.
Based on the allegations of this accident being an alleged intentional act Houston County Sheriff Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation because of possible criminal charges.
Law Enforcement had drones deployed mapping out the scene.
The case is under investigation by Houston County Sheriff Department.
OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – Marion County Sheriff’s deputies located Caden Speight, 17, of Dunnellon, on Friday afternoon in Williston following an overnight search and Amber Alert. Officials say initial claims about a Caden being shot and abducted were unfounded.
Marion County Sheriff’s deputies no longer believe Caden Speight, 17, of Dunnellon, was taken by four Hispanic men as originally reported in an Amber Alert on Thursday night. His disappearance was connected to a shooting in Dunnellon; however, the teen wasn’t wounded.
MARION COUNTY FL: This young man is reported to have family in Dothan Alabama and Jackson County Florida. His dad is reported to live in or near Marion County Florida.
A Florida AMBER Alert has been issued for Caden Speight, 17, of Dunnellon. Sheriff’s deputies confirm he is the victim of a shooting that happened Thursday.
HOUSTON COUNTY: Tonight Mike Schmitz took the opportunity to call out Houston County School Superintendent Brandy White.
This was at the end of the re-election announcement of D-2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams.
Mike Schmitz said from the podium to Supt. Brandy White and the crowd, ” did you know that Houston County School’s were NUMBER 1 in math scores in county schools in the entire State of Alabama?” Supt. Brandy White confirmed that. When confirmed by White, Mike Schmitz said “guys let’s celebrate” which caused a rounding applause.
Then Mike Schmitz went further with Houston County School Supt. Brandy White. “you are number 4 in reading in county schools in the State of Alabama, right?” Then the Mike Schmitz ” WHOA”.
Schmitz said he was not running for anything but is proud of the Houston County School System and the progress made under the leadership of Houston County School Supt. Brandy White.

TUSCALOOSA – MONTGOMERY: In a lawsuit filed by Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox against the Alabama Department of Revenue. The lawsuit concerns the Alabama Sales Tax on items purchased through the internet.
Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe was interviewed by 1819 News and critical of Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and their lawsuit.
Shoupe said in an interview with 1819 News on Thursday, “If the lawsuit is successful, potentially the entire program is in jeopardy and will possibly be declared unconstitutional.”
The state’s online sales tax law is known as the Simplified Sellers Use Tax (SSUT) program. Half of the 8% online sales tax goes to the state, and the other half goes to cities and counties.
A Motion to Dismiss was filed by the Alabama Department of Revenue. The court has set a potential court date to hear the Motion To Dismiss on November 3, 2025 or October 30 or 31. The lawsuit is filed in Montgomery Alabama Circuit Court and assigned to Judge Tiffany McCord.

There was a water main rupture on Canterbury Road.
