2:32 PM Two Men Face Wildlife Charges After Alleged Abuse of Canada Geese

AUBURN | RICKEY STOKES NEWS

Two men have been issued multiple wildlife citations following an incident involving Canada geese at the Pines Crossing Golf Course in Auburn over the weekend.

The incident gained attention after photos circulated on social media appearing to show two men throwing objects at geese and handling one of the birds by the neck. Efforts are underway to contact the individual who took the photos and reported the incident.

According to Lee County District Court records, Carter Allen McCullough, 20, and Jacob Daniel Dyas Jr., 20, both of Fairhope, were each issued three Alabama Uniform Non-Traffic Citations on March 1.

Court documents show both men were cited for:

  • Hunting without a license (All Game)

  • Hunting during a closed season

  • Hunting without permission (Day)

Fred Holton, manager of Pines Crossing Golf Course, told WRBL that one goose was killed. Holton said the individuals involved were public players and not members of the course.

“This is a first. I’ve been working golf courses since 1981 and never had anything like this happen,” Holton said. “It was upsetting.”

Auburn Police confirmed they are aware of the situation. However, because the case was handled by Alabama Wildlife officials, police said they are not certain whether any geese were injured or killed.

Messages have been left with Alabama wildlife officials seeking additional information. As of publication, no response had been received.

Both men are scheduled to appear in Lee County District Court on April 7, 2026.
