FOLKS, I have been trying to keep up. I NEED SOME HELP.

Right now it has just been myself doing news stories. Had to cover for someone who was out sick and had some other duties to handle.

If anyone wants to help I do need some.

I apologize for not being as prompt as I like to be in getting stories up. Working on correcting that issue.

03:22 PM Severe Accident – Barbour County – Multiple Patients

BARBOUR COUNTY:     Barbour County 911 dispatched emergency units to a multi vehicle, multi patient vehicle accident, Highway 431 near the Alabama Rest Area and County Road 40.

At the time of dispatch responding emergency units were advised there were at least six ( 6 ) patients that required EMS treatment. Survival Flight was auto launched to the accident. Abbeville Fire-Rescue was mutual aid requested to the scene as well Baker Hill Fire – Rescue and Eufaula Fire – EMS. Additional air units were dispatched to the scene. Barbour County Sheriff Deputies and ALEA – Troopers were dispatched.

It is unknown the exact cause of the accident. Two helicopters from Survival Flight flew in and transported the most critical patients. The other patients were ground transported to Medical Center – Barbour.

ALEA – Troopers are in charge of the accident investigation.

White Oak Volunteer Fire Department was never paged to this accident. This department is right at the accident scene. There were multiple requests to respond White Oak Volunteer Fire but someone dropped the ball.

DOTHAN:      10:12 AM    Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Fire, Dothan Police and Pilcher Ambulance to a HAZ MAT at 1231 Fortner Street. A gas line is ruptured.

The rupture is across the street from Ridgecrest Baptist Church and not at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.

The leak is at a Y connection and clamping the line off has been unsuccessful. NO CHILDREN ARE IN DANGER AT THIS TIME. However Dothan Fire has made the decision to evacuate Ridgecrest Christian School and daycare as a precautionary measure while time is on their hands. Rather than waiting until there was a major problem.

Fortner Street is closed between North Park and Woodland.

9:34 PM Penalties Increased For Those Who Run From Law Enforcement

MONTGOMERY:   The 2026 session of the Alabama Legislature passed a law that increases the penalties for those who run from law enforcement.

The law will also increase sentences against deliberate behavior like eluding with children in the vehicle, striking law enforcement officers in their vehicle, or striking an officer while the offender is on pretrial release.

The new law will take effect on Oct. 1.

7:51 PM. Two Busted For Drugs In The Mail

DOTHAN, Ala.) On April 9, 2026, the Dothan Police Department was notified that a package suspected to contain illegal drugs was set to be delivered to a Dothan address.  Dothan Police Narcotics investigators were immediately notified.  It was discovered that the suspects, identified as Gerald Rattery (40) of West Palm Beach, Florida and Brian Fields (39) of Chico, California, were set to receive the package containing illegal narcotics.  Inside the package, investigators found approximately 10 pounds of marijuana.

After the delivery was made, Rattery and Fields left the location on a vehicle.  A traffic stop on the vehicle revealed the package was placed in the trunk.  Rattery was charged with one count of Conspiracy to Traffic Marijuana and Fields was charged with one count of Trafficking Marijuana.  Both are being held on $1.5 million bonds.

3:05 PM Man Ran Over By Tractor – Geneva County

GENEVA COUNTY:   09:22 AM   Geneva County 911 dispatched Slocomb Fire-Rescue and Geneva County Sheriff Deputies to Omar Road near Slocomb. Reports are a 50 year old male had been run over by a tractor.

Geneva County 911 auto launched Survival Flight. At 10:00 AM Survival Flight was on the scene. 10:24 AM Patient had been flown out and emergency units were returning to service.

No more details known at this time.
