COTTONWOOD: 10:13 AM This morning RSN visited the new building for Cottonwood Senior Citizens Center, unannounced.
The building was destroyed when the tornado struck Cottonwood.
The new building, much larger and much nicer than the previous center, is near completion. The construction crews are all working hard to finish it.
The visit was unannounced. I was in Cottonwood to getmy grandson from school and was early. So I decided to check out the Senior Building. Outside the building was Cottonwiid Mayor Van Granger. He was checking out the building and meeting the architect. Mayor Granger is making sure all is going as per contract. Mayor Granger wants the center to be nice.
Since the tornado Union Hill Baptist Church welcomed the Senior Citizens to meet at the church. In the immediate future the Cottonwood Senior Citizens Center will return to a newly constructed center.

EVENT: Severe Thunderstorm Warning
ALERT:
At 733 AM EDT/633 AM CDT/, severe thunderstorms were located along a
line extending from 8 miles east of Lakepoint Resort State Park to
near Newton, moving east at 50 mph.
HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Daleville, Abbeville, Fort Gaines, Headland, Georgetown, Dothan,
Ozark, Fort Rucker, Midland City, Kinsey, Newton, Webb, Pinckard,
Grimes, Newville, Napier Field, Haleburg, Shorterville, Wire Bridge,
and Hunt Field.
INSTRUCTIONS:
A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1000 AM EDT/900 AM CDT/ for
southeastern Alabama...and southwestern Georgia.
Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
Jurors called for the Houston County Circuit Court for the term beginning Monday, March 16, 2026, shall report at 10:00 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. to the Houston County Courthouse due to inclement weather. This change in time is limited only to jurors in Houston County and does NOT apply to any cases set before the Houston County Courts.

The location is on the eastside of Houston County in the area of County Road 8. The fire has jumped the road and on both sides of the road. Visibility is reported to be zero.
