Midland City has officially sworn in Keith Gray as its new chief of police.
The swearing-in ceremony took place Friday, January 2, 2026, marking the beginning of Gray’s leadership of the Midland City Police Department.
Gray’s appointment was approved by the Midland City Council last month in a 3–2 vote, following his selection by Mayor JoAnn Grimsley. He succeeds former Police Chief Willie Powell.
Gray brings extensive law enforcement experience to the position, having previously served as police chief in both Level Plains and Gordon.
In addition to his local law enforcement roles, Gray was appointed by Kay Ivey in December 2024 to serve on the State of Alabama Private Investigation Board.
City officials say Gray’s background and experience will help guide the department forward as he begins his tenure in Midland City.

HOUSTON COUNTY: Brantley Bradley was released from Children’s Hospital in Birmingham on Thursday and has returned home.
Brantley underwent his third surgery of 2025 on Tuesday at Children’s Hospital. His original surgery was in 2020 after Dr. Fred Pich found the fluid in his brain was not draining. Dr. Pich called me after Brantley arrived at Southeast Health and said he needed to go to Children’s. Survival Flight was called and Flight Medic Mark Reynolds was on board.
I knew that Brantley was in great hands with Dr. Fred Pich and Mark Reynolds. Both were in my wedding decades ago.
Brantley arrived by Survival Flight with myself, his dad Mike Bradley, his step dad Josh Fails and Uncle Jason McCorkle arriving only 40 minutes behind the helicopter. Not long after arrival Brantley was taken into surgery. The doctors placed a shunt in Brantley.
Overall Brantley has done well. Several complications with the shunt has required going back in several times and this time was placing stents in.
Brantley has had a great attitude and prior to going into surgery on Tuesday was in a good mood. Which makes it easier on parents and grandparents and family.
A lot people lifted Brantley in prayer. ALEA Trooper Tom Norman in 2020 gave Brantley as Trooper Care Bear. Retired now ALEA Trooper Norman checked on Brantley as did many others. The family thanks all who lifted Brantley, medical staff and family in prayer. We all have strong belief in GOD and PRAYER, and we thank each and everyone.
Brantley has had a good day today and hope he has many more. His neck is stiff and he is working on keeping it moving.
