Mr. Joe A. Long of Ashford passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the age of 86.Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Long was born October 19, 1938 in Arkansas, the son of the late Lee A. and Athalie Long.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Lee A. Long, Jr. and sister Tilda Stanhope.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia Long, son Joey Long (Diane), daughters Suzanne Long, Dianne Long, grandchildren Dakota Andries (Ashley), Ashley Shipes (Hunter), Shannon Goldstrich (Andrew), Brice Long, sisters Shirley Reever (Vern), Terry Mann (Mike), brother Henry Long and four great-grandchildren.
Muriel C. Danley, of Jack, AL, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at her home. She was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 24, 2025 at Victoria Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Marler officiating. Burial will follow in Victoria Community Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until service time. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Victoria Community Cemetery, c/o Wilson Mobley, 13606 Highway 125, Jack, AL 36346 or a charity of your choice.
Muriel was born and raised in Plant City, FL. She and her husband moved to Jack, AL in 1967. She worked with Alfa Insurance for twenty-six and half years, Colonial Bank for ten years, as well as partnering with her husband in raising chickens, hogs, cows, horses.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph H. Danley, mother Gertrude Carlson and three sisters Shirley Billston, Edna Raulerson, and Mary Whitehead.
Survivors include her daughter, Dawn Kelley (Ronnie); son, Mark L. Danley (Virginia); four grandchildren, Jessica Tuberville (Shawn), Andrew Kelley (Danielle), Jason Danley (Amber), and Heather Davis (Dewayne); fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Rogers; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. David Gerald Harris of Slocomb, Alabama passed away, Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at his home. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Slocomb with Rev. Brad Price and Rev. Lee Chorn officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. Interment will follow in the Fadette Pentecostal Ministries Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Slocomb Building Fund or the New Teamon Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Harris was born June 29, 1942, in Dothan, Alabama to the late Henry Grady and Mary Celester Lessie Dean Harris. David was a graduate of Slocomb High School. He served 42 years in the Army National Guard and upon his retirement, he began an adventure in the Bait Business until he completely retired to other hobbies. During his life, he served as a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Slocomb, volunteered as a fireman and EMT with the Slocomb Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and loved playing “Santa” for the children in his community and for a special young man, Brian Jones. David enjoyed taking “lots” of pictures, fishing and working outside.
In addition to his parents, siblings: Grady L. Harris, and Katherine H. Capron; and daughter-in-law, Jada Harris, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Rachel Register Harris, Slocomb: daughter, Connie Rene Harris Brown (Gary), New Market; son, Michael Glen Harris, Brandywine, MD; daughter, Teresa Harris Reeder (Glenn), Slocomb; nine grandchildren: Shawn Brown, Daryl Brown, Anthony Harris, Ashley Harris-Petrie, Anna Harris, Zachary Harris, Jeffrey Harris, Alex Reeder, Brittany Reeder Brannon; one great grandson; Caelum Harris-Petrie “Bean”; twin brother, Steve E. Harris (Judy); sisters: Willia Dean “Corky” Schulman, and Era Jo Holmes; brother, Jerry Harris (Liz); and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
The family wishes to thank a special brother-in-law, William “Bill” Register; sister-in-law, Anne Register, a special family friend, Judean Killingsworth & staff from Gentiva Hospice for their dedication and compassionate and loving care.
Phyllis Elmore age 72 of Taylor passed unexpectedly Monday, January 20, 2025 at her home.
Phyllis was born September 2, 1952 in Dothan, Alabama to Lonnie and Dorothy Howell Powell. She worked as a CNA for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. SHe also enjoyed playing Bingo and other games, gardening and fishing.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lonnie and Dorothy Powell; brother Jerry Finley; sister Sandra Strickland.
Survivors include her sons Scotty Dykes (Annette), Joe Dykes and Johnny Kelleyl daughter Felicia Elmore Beverly (Chris); grandchildren Alexander Dykes, Michael Kelley (Sarah), Charlie Elmore, Catherine Elmore, Colin Elmore; several great grandchildren; sister Barbara Middleton.
Lee Sullivan Williams, 78, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 14, 1947. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Aubrey and Eunice Williams and step-mother, Dura Williams, his brothers, Doyle Williams, Ray Williams, and sister, Martha Jane Williams. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne Johnson Williams, son Justin Lee Williams (Natalie), and daughter Rachel Anne Williams Lawson, all of Dothan, Alabama
Mr. Williams was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and the Church Orchestra. Lee graduated from Holmes County High School and Troy University. He joined the U. S. Navy and was stationed in California, Mississippi, Hawaii, and Idaho and trained in nuclear submarines. After his discharge from the Navy, he was employed with Farley Nuclear Plant (the Southern Company) for 40 years and as training director for 30 years.
Lee was a dedicated Christian who taught Sunday School, participated in the church orchestra, and taught many study groups throughout the years. His favorite hobbies were playing golf and supporting Alabama Crimson Tide football. Lee was a man of high integrity who was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Dothan, Alabama, at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 25. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M., at the church with Reverend Ray Jones officiating. Private graveside services for the family will follow at Bonifay Cemetery, directed by Sims Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Tom Blindauer, Joel Deavers, David Hall, John Horn, Forest Lero, Randy Wiggins. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Buddy Pittman Sunday School Class.
