Lloyd Reid Brown, Jr. “Sonny”, a resident of Headland, Alabama died Thursday, March 20, 2025 at his residence following a brief illness. He was 68.
Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 24, 2025 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memory Hill cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Brown was born March 13, 1957 in Arlington, Virginia to Lloyd Reid and Dona Jean Budde Brown, Sr.. He joined the United States Navy in 1981 and served 21 years before an honorable retirement. Mr. Brown then began a career at Farley Nuclear Plant where he worked for another 15 years. He was passionate about fast cars, loved music, horror movies and most of all his family and our dog, Sophie
Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Reid Brown, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Anna M. Brown; mother, Dona Brown; children, Jaime Brannon (Jason), Justin Brown (Andrea); grandchildren, Lola and Atlas Brown, Shauna Brown, Katelyn Wesley (Devan), Grace, Amber and Erin Snyder; great grandchildren, Ryland and Waylon Wesley, Mia Roemer and Colten Snyder; brother, Raymond Brown (Kathy).
Mrs. Mello Jo Parrish entered the gates of Heaven, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was 89.
A graveside service will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at 2p.m. at Memory Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Hosea Parker officiating.
Mrs. Parrish was born March 15,1936 in Geneva Co., to the late Berlin and Earline Smith. She was a lifetime resident of Taylor, AL. She was the devoted wife of Harvey “Shorty” Parrish. They were married for 71 years. “JoJo” was a caring and loving mother and grandmother. She loved her family with all her heart. She was a member of Berean Baptist church. JoJo spent many hours baking her special cookies for her loved ones. She also loved jewelry, flowers, and completing challenging puzzles. Most of all she loved Jesus and enjoyed telling people she met all about Him!
Upon her passing she was joyfully reunited with her parents, Berlin and Earline Smith, the love of her life, Harvey “Shorty” Parrish, her sister, Billie Faye Fulford, and her grandson, Colt Gilliam.
She is survived by her son Denny Ray Parrish (Debby), and daughters Penny Thrasher (Larry) and Jane Sunday (Ricky). Her grandsons John Parrish (Kim), Tra Gilliam (Shanda), Brett Thrasher, Scott Parrish (Kelly), Brandon Sunday (Ashley) and granddaughters Christa Lemon (Jayme) and Britney Rowell (James). Great grandsons Hunter Parrish, Austin Thrasher (Bailey), Trent Gilliam (Izzy), Brad Clements, Sam Martin (Mary Grace), and Liam Parrish. Great granddaughters Brianna Peters (Tyler) and Emma Martin. Great-great grandchildren Sophie and Olivia Peters, Kayden and Landon Brodmerkel, Hadley and Rhett Sunday, Blakely, Lawson, and Kayson Parrish, and Danny Mac Clements. Special niece Melinda Lamb (Robert), and special nephew Danny Miller. A special sister n law Ruth Parrish.

NEWTON…Mrs. Mary Scott Glenn, a resident of Newton, died late Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2025, in a Dothan hospital. She was 95.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Newton City Cemetery with Reverend Shane Traylor officiating. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
Mrs. Glenn was a resident of Newton for seventy years and a longtime member of Newton Baptist Church and the Newton Ruritan Club. She dedicated over twenty years of service to the United Education profession. Mrs. Glenn was a graduate of Ariton High School and attended Riley Business College in Montgomery. Over the years, Mrs. Glenn supported her husband in his decades of service with the Newton Masonic Lodge and Southeast Alabama Rural Health Association (SARHA). Mrs. Glenn was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, friend and neighbor.
Mrs. Glenn was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Raymond Scott and Annie Jane Chapman Scott; husband of nearly seventy years, Muriel Max Glenn; siblings Kathleen Cook, Louise Walls, Elaine Woodard, Travis Scott, and Grace Jacobs.
Surviving relatives include her two sons, Michael Glenn, Montgomery and Daniel Glenn (Susan), Hartford; granddaughter Danielle Glenn Montoya (Matthew); great-granddaughter Meredith Anne Montoya; brother, Dean Scott (Barbara), Ozark; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Brown, born August 19, 1942, in Newberry, FL. Jerry graduated from Newberry High School, where he was an active member of the sports community, showcasing his athletic prowess and dedication to teamwork.
A man of deep faith, Jerry was an esteemed member of Bay Springs Baptist Church. His love for music and singing was only rivaled by his devotion to his family, who were the center of his world. Jerry’s professional journey was as varied as it was successful. He began his career as a farmer and a watermelon broker, a testament to his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. His passion for construction led him to build and remodel homes, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and dedication. In a significant chapter of his life, Jerry moved to Dothan, AL, where he became a licensed Realtor. His easygoing demeanor and warmth touched many lives within the realty community. Jerry’s professionalism and genuine care for others made him a beloved figure among his colleagues and clients alike. An avid outdoorsman, Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with his friends and family. He was also deeply committed to serving his church, embodying the values of faith and community in all aspects of his life.
Jerry leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Mildred, who stood by his side through life’s many adventures. He is also survived by his sons, Jerry Brown Jr. (Brenda), Scott Brown, and daughter, Kimberly Brown. As a grandfather, he was adored by Amy Pritchett (Jeremy), Bradley Sanders, Steven Hardwick, Aaron Brown, Sabrina Townsend (Connor), and Tyler Brown (Grace). His great-grandchildren, Maverick, Finleigh, Eleanor, Charlotte Pritchett, and Baker Grace Brown, will always remember him with love and affection.
Jerry Brown’s life was a testament to the values of faith, family, hard work, and community. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Green officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. Ms. Smith was born in Houston County to the late Robert Ray McCord and Myrtice Rebecca Williamson McCord. She was a graduate of Dothan High School, Class of 1963. She then attended Southern Union College where she obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business. She worked along with her husband, Dr. Ronald Smith in his practice as a chiropractic assistant for many years. Ms. Smith has been attending First Baptist Church of Headland. She and her husband lived in Valley Alabama for thirty six years before returning to the area in 2018. Ms. Kaye loved traveling, especially taking bus tours around the United States.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Ronald Smith and a twin sister, Faye McCord.
Surviving relatives include her daughter, Rhonda Smith Patten (John) of Sylacauga, AL; son, Mark Smith (Angie) of Columbia; sister, Patsy Clark of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren, Chelsey Smith Manring (Dilan), Bailee Smith Harrison (Whit), Anna Claire Patten, Abigail Patten; great grandchildren, Anslee Katherine Manring and Saylor James Harrison; several other cousins, nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
Gloria Dean Williams, lovingly known to all as Gloria, passed away peacefully on the 12th of March, 2025, at the age of 67, in Abbeville, Alabama, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 9, 1957, in Clayton, Alabama, Gloria was a beacon of kindness and friendliness, touching the lives of all she encountered with her warm spirit and generous heart.
Gloria was the cherished daughter of the late Eddie Lee Williams and Mary Lee Young Williams. She was a beloved sister and is survived by her adoring sisters, Mary Ruth Lawrence, Mary Ann Murray, Lois Lindsay (Sonny), Louise Mason (Leroy), Cherry Jones (Raymond), and Mary Alice May (James). Gloria was preceded in passing by her siblings, Eddie Dean Williams, Mary Lilly Williams, and Betty Ann Williams, yet her legacy continues to thrive through her loving family.
As a devoted mother, Gloria’s pride and joy were her daughter, Amanda Blackmon, who is married to Ricky Nelson. She reveled in the accomplishments and milestones of her grandchildren, Carriss Dozier (Deion), Breanna Glover, and Tyris Blackmon. Her great-grandchildren, Noah Dozier, Kyla Dozier, and Hope Dozier, were a constant source of delight and happiness in her life.
Gloria’s presence was a gift to her many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members, who all benefited from her eternal optimism and enduring support. Her love for her family was matched only by her passion for life’s simple pleasures. An avid player of bingo and an enthusiast of crossword puzzles, Gloria found joy and contentment in these activities that kept her mind sharp and her spirit engaged.
Gospel music filled Gloria’s home and heart, often serving as the soundtrack to family gatherings and quiet moments alike. Her love for the soul-stirring melodies was infectious, and she was known to hum along to her favorite tunes while going about her day.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Gloria will remember her as the embodiment of kindness. Her friendly demeanor was a constant, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued will not be forgotten. Gloria’s compassion extended beyond her family, touching the lives of everyone she met.
Gloria’s life was a journey of joy, resilience, and unwavering faith. She faced life’s challenges with grace and emerged with a smile that could brighten the darkest of days. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the countless ways she enriched our lives.

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11am in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, March 21, 2025, from 4-6pm in the Sunset Parlor. Gloria will be laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
