Mrs. Anne Chapman Roney, passed away on June 17, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 89.
Anne was born on May 20, 1937, in Dothan, where she was also raised and spent her life rooted in the community she loved. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Chapman and Mary Robbie Reeves. From an early age, she carried herself with grace, strength, and a quiet determination that would shape the way she lived, worked, and cared for others throughout her life.
Anne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wilson Graves Pickett and James Herbert Roney. She is survived by her children, Mike Roney (Debra), Gary Roney (Christine), Patti Godwin (Joe), and Cheryl Susemichel (Larry). She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Roney, Stephanie Susemichel, Emily Susemichel, Dajun Godwin (Jamie), Rowan Godwin (Abby), and Kealani Roney, along with her treasured great-grandchildren, Vivian, Carolyn, Kyle, Lara Leah, Emerson, Cailin, Giovanah, and Bridger. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Stringfellow.
Anne spent her early years working in the bookkeeping office at Sears and Blumberg’s Department Store, where her diligence and reliability were evident to all who knew her. She later became the owner and manager, along with her husband James, of Roney’s Dixie Dandy and South Oates IGA, where she worked with dedication and pride. Her work ethic, steady leadership, and warm presence left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside her. She also served as a floral buyer for Main Street Foods, a role that reflected her creativity and her appreciation for beauty in everyday life.
A faithful member of Cornerstone Church, Anne lived her life with a strong sense of purpose and devotion. She was known for ministering to young women and for offering encouragement, wisdom, and kindness to those who needed it most. Her faith was not only something she professed, but something she practiced through her actions, her generosity, and her care for others. She was often thoughtful in giving Bibles when they were needed, a reflection of the compassion and spiritual strength that guided her life.
Anne was affectionately known as “Mommie Anne” by her grandchildren, a name that spoke to the warmth and love she poured into her family. Her heart was her family, and she found great joy in spending time with them, entertaining them, and making memories that will be cherished for generations. She loved working in her garden among her flowers, fishing, and using her creativity to make flower bouquets and home decor. These simple pleasures brought her happiness, but her greatest joy came from being surrounded by the people she loved most.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gentiva Hospice; her sitters, Sherry, Beverly, Pam, and Amy; and Extendicare’s staff of Hall 3.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, June 19, 2026 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Todd Tyson officiating.
