DOTHAN:

A Dothan man previously convicted of manslaughter could soon find himself back in state prison after his latest run-in with law enforcement.

Dothan police arrested 29-year-old Tayshawn Malik Stevenson early Saturday morning. According to jail records, he is charged with attempting to elude, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana.

But those charges may only deepen his legal troubles. As a convicted felon currently serving a split sentence, prosecutors could ask a judge to revoke his probation and return him to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Houston County District Attorney Russ Goodman confirmed his office will review the police report when it arrives next week. Following that review, his office may seek to have Stevenson finish the remainder of his original sentence behind bars.

2019 Deadly Shooting

Stevenson pleaded guilty in June 2023 to manslaughter in the shooting death of 27-year-old Akheem Benjamin Hall. The killing occurred outside a home on Naomi Drive in July 2019 during what police described as an ongoing dispute between the men.

He initially faced a murder charge and later fled the state. U.S. Marshals located and arrested him in New York weeks after the shooting.

A judge ultimately sentenced Stevenson to 15 years under a split sentence — requiring him to serve three years in jail followed by supervised probation. With credit for time already served awaiting trial, he was released in late 2024.

Family Member Also Convicted

Stevenson’s mother, Tiffany Rowell, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal conspiracy in connection to the case. She received a 12-month suspended sentence.

Court records do not list a current attorney for Stevenson on his new charges.
