LUCY – HOUSTON COUNTY:      3:03 PM     Houston County 911 dispatched multiple volunteer fire departments, Cottonwood Rescue and Houston County Sheriff Deputies to a structure fire. The location of the fire is 1058 Collins Road in Pansey. This is almost in Jackson County Florida.

Responding to the fire, Ashford Volunteer FIre, Cottonwood Volunteer Fire, Gordon Volunteer Fire, Madrid Volunteer Fire, Lucy Volunteer Fire, and Pansey Volunteer FIre.

The residence was reported to be unoccupied.

Despite the efforts of former D2 Houston County Commissioner Doug Sinquefield and former Dothan – Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah there are no fire hydrants near the structure.

Houston County Sheriff Deputies were first on the scene and reported flames visible. Responding volunteer fireman also reported the road was very rough and to use caution as responding.

Jackson County Fire – Rescue was requested to send. Water being an issue, while trucks are pumping then trucks have to be shuttling water. Malone Volunteer FIre and Delwood Volunteer Fire from Jackson County responded to the scene.

By 3:18 PM, remembering dispatched at 3:03 PM, the roof was gone according to radio traffic of units on the scene.

The volunteer fire units reported fire on the side of the road and other structures on the property were in danger. Rehobeth Fire Chief responded to the scene.

This was a defensive attack only hampered by no water supply near the scene. But in Houston County, the UPAID VOLUNTEERS work to serve others. They have NO health insurance by the county, NO retirement by the county, they are not like Houston County Commissioners where they get vehicle allowances. They serve their community.
