HOUSTON COUNTY: In podcast Rickey Stokes News outlines the Houston County Commission election on May 19, 2026.
The spending of the Houston County Commission, the lawsuit against the taxpayers of the Houston County because of the negligence of Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe. Because of his negligence a inmate was injured and flown to UAB Hospital by emergency medical helicopter.
That negligence has caused a multi million dollar lawsuit in United States Federal Court.
Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza did nothing wrong. Sheriff Valenza went to Chairman Shoupe two years in a row attempting to get it fixed. The Sheriff does not control the funding. It comes from the Houston County Commission.
Thanks to Alabama State Representative Paul Lee, backed by Alabama State Representative Rick Rehm, Steve Clouse, Alabama Senator Donnie Chesteen, Alabama State Rep. Jeff Sorrells and Alabama State Senator billy Beasley, the local legislative delegation, the secured $ 1.2 million dollars to fix the doors after the inmate received major injuries.
Also, who thinks that $ 6.2 million dollars spend on Houston County Farm Center will ever return a profit? Chairman Shoupe and the current sitting commissioners spent $ 6.2 million on Farm Center, but Chairman Shoupe called out Rev. Ricky Plummer about Chattachochee State Park. The Sheriff wanted the 600 acres of which costs $ 10 for five year lease, to contruct a Alabama Sheriff Boys and Girls Ranch. D2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams said NO, because he promised in his election four years ago to re-instate as a park.
Rev. Plummer, a well known Pastor of one of Dothan’s larger churches, wanted part of it for a Skeet shooting, which is a huge sport. One Houston County young man got a 4 years college education scholoarship for his skeet shooting. Some locals travel as far away as Ohio for tournaments.
The Houston County Commission will be, in my opinion, going up on all they can in taxes and fees after the election.
YOU ARE THE EMPLOYERS. Just say NO to all incumbent Houston County Commission Chairman and Commissioners.
