HENRY COUNTY: After being found GUILTY on December 4, 2024 by a jury of 12 in Henry County Alabama, Jerry Temples of Shorterville was sentenced.
Sentencing occured this past Friday in Henry County Circuit Court before 20th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Butch Binford.
On December 29, 2022 Temples was arrested and charged with Child Abuse and Sexual Abuse. After a trial on December 4, 2024, the jury found Jerry Temples GUILTY of Child Abuse. The allegations against Temples that he threw the 14 year old female “off back porch, striking her in the face, picking her up by the hair, slamming her on the ground, pulling her back in the house and grabbing her by the throat”. A jury of 12 men and women found Jerry Temples GUILTY.
Temples was also charged with Sexual Abuse. A jury of 12 aquitted Temples of that charge.
The Sexual Abuse charge, a class C felony.
On Friday Judge Binford Sentenced Jerry Temples to serve in the Alabama Department of Corrections for one year and one day ( which means day for day in Alabama Department of Corrections ), followed by three years of supervised probation. Judge Binford ordered Jerry Temples in immediate custody of the Henry County Sheriff.
Jerry Temples will wait in the Henry County Jail to be transferred to the Alabama Department of Corrections, prison, where he will serve the one year and one day in custody.
A brave 14 year old girl when this journey began stuck to her testimony which resulted in the conviciton by 12 men and women of Henry County Alabama.
DOTHAN: 03:39 AM Dothan 911 dispatched a structure fire at 103 Sandy Springs Road. This road runs between Selkirk Drive and Pantation Drive.
Dothan Fire Engine Companies 3 ( Whatley Drive ), Engine Company 8 ( Highlands ), Engine Company 6 ( Napier Field Road ), Rehab 1 ( Lakewood ), Battalion 2 ( West Main ), Pilcher Ambulance, Dothan Police rolled.
At the time of dispatch the information was audible alarm and smoke visible.
By 3:46 AM Dothan Fire Engine Companies on the scene and determined it was the fireplace that had rekindled and no structure fire. All incoming units were returned to service and Dothan Fire Engine 3 remained on the scene to clear the smoke.
Dothan Fire has a ISO ratings of 1. Notice, the call came in at 3:39 AM and by 3:46 AM, 7 minutes, Dothan Fire Engine Companies on the scene and had determined the source of the smoke and returning units to service.

Barbara Carmichael, age 77, died in a fire at her home on Rose Avenue in Hartford and will be transported to the Alabama Department of forensic science for an autopsy. The fire is under investigation by the Alabama Fire Marshal.
SCENE INFORMATION:
The body of Ms. Carmichael was reported to have been found this afternoon. The fire is expected to have possibly taken place during the night. The fire was contained to the residence and investigation reveals possibly extinguished due to lack of oxygen.
Family had attempted to contact Ms. Carmichael this afternoon. When calls were unsuccessful, family went to check on her. That is when the fire and her subsequent death were found.
Alabama State Fire Marshals, Hartford Police Department, Geneva County Coroner and Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences are investigating.
DALE COUNTY: 6:56 PM Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum, Dale County Sheriff Deputies, intercepted by Houston County Sheriff Deputies are escorting Ozark EMS from Dale County to Southeast Health.
In the Ozark EMS units, a two year old child not breathing. Without hesitation Dale County Sheriff and the Deputies intercepted the ambulance and escorting to Southeast Health, emergency.
The reason for escorting a ambulance with a critical patient the last thing the ambulance needs is to stop/start/swerve as they get through traffic while the Paramedics are fighting for this child’s life.
Imagine performing CPR, doing protocols onthe child such as IV and other medical procedures, as you are fyling around in the back of the ambulance.
Drivers hear sirens, slam on brakes directly in front of the emergency vehicle, fail to yield the right of way and travel through cross streets in the path of the ambulance.
7:02 PM the ambulance and law enforcement escorts are at Montgomery and Westgate and turning left on Ross Clark around the northside of Ross Clark Circle to East Main Street.
COWARTS: At the request of Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland and members of Cowarts Town Council, the Houston County Commission is set to approve SAMMY BAGWELL MEMORIAL BLVD.
Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland asked D2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams if the Houston County Road and Bridge could make the signs for the designation of SAMMY BAGWELL MEMORIAL BLVD. The designation will be placed on North Broad Street in honor and memory of the late Sammy Bagwell.
The name of the road will remain North Broad Street, but it will be featured in the memory of Sammy Bagwell.
Sammy Bagwell was a product of Cowarts, Alabama. He was a friend to everyone in the community and a regular at Broadway Cafe in Ashford most every morning. He always took time to talk to everyone, joke and play around with people, and was everyone’s friend. His death was sudden and unexpected on November 20, 2024. Everyone always spoke kind words about Sammy Bagwell.
After his death, and in a conversation between Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland and D2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams, the process was put into works. After the approval of the designation there will be a sign erected jointly by the family of Sammy Bagwell, D2 Houston County Commissioner Tracy Adams and the Houston County Commission, along with Cowarts Mayor Randy Rowland and members of the Cowarts Town Council.
