Dothan Municipal Election Campaign Finance Compliance by Candidate

Dothan Municipal Election Campaign Finance Compliance by Candidate

House Bill 156 became law February 2024, which made any candidate in a campaign, not required to file a campaign committee or file monthly or weekly reports, if the campaign didn’t raise or spend 1000.00 during an election. RSN has taken the time to see which school board and local government candidates in Dothan, has filed a campaign committee and has filed their required campaign finance reports. With the municipal elections 22 days away 15 candidates have no election committee formed or no financial reports whatsoever in the system. Either they have met the $1000 received or spent threshold and are not in compliance with FCPA, or even more disturbing, they haven’t spent or received a $1000 during their almost two months of campaigning. You can spend 1000.00 on a 100 yard signs for reference. Three additional candidates have committees formed but are delinquent on campaign finance reports. The Fair Campaign Practices Act ensures a fair election, that all candidate has access to what another candidate is spending, also what that candidate is receiving.  Disclaimer if these candidates didn’t spend or receive under a $1000, they are in compliance. They have no shot in this election, but they are in compliance.

10:31 AM. Mayor Mark Saliba and Police Chief Benny Meet In Tuscaloosa

10:31 AM. Mayor Mark Saliba and Police Chief Benny Meet In Tuscaloosa

DOTHAN – TUSCALOOSA:    This past week Dothan Police Chief Will Benny and Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba traveled to Tuscaloosa Alabama. They met with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and members of Tuscaloosa Police Department. Some members of Dothan Police Department also attended this meeting which included Dothan Police Lt. Schwab.

They toured and were briefed on the Cyber Intelligence Unit.

Public Safety is the top priority of Mayor Saliba, the members of Dothan Commission and Dothan Police Chief Will Benny.

Recently at a Dothan Commission Meeting D3 Commissioner Bradley Bedwell brought up the Cyber Intelligence Unit and desires for this project to move forward.

Mayor Saliba and Chief Benny have also toured other departments Cyber Intelligence Unit. It is their desire because in the times today law enforcement has to use all tools possible to stay ahead of time.

Under the leadership of Dothan Police Chief Will Benny a lot of proactive tools have been implemented to stay on top of crime. Some challengers of incumbents on Dothan Commission have said crime is out of control which is false statement. Crime is actually down. Also since 2021 Chief Will Benny, with the blessings of former Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper, current City Manager Randy Morris, Mayor Mark Saliba, Associate Commissioners Kevin Dorsey, Aristotle Kirkland, Bradley Bedwell, John Ferguson, Gant Pearce, and Davis Crutchfield, Dothan Police Department has increased by 50 officers to a force of 200.

Under the current leadership the salary for police officers has increased to retain officers. A police academy at Wiregrass Training Center to train officers locally. And several intelligence systems in place, of which I will not disclose, to help be proactive on crime.

This trip to Tuscaloosa is one of many projects this police chief, this Mayor, this commission has going to protect the citizens in Dothan.
