Shirley Thomas Smith, a resident of Newville, Alabama, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025, at her residence. She was 85 years old.

Shirley was born on August 2, 1939, in Miami, Florida to the late Elmer and Josephine McDuffy Thomas. She worked for many years in the textile industry as a line worker. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo and crossword puzzles. When Shirley lived in Louisville, Alabama, she attended Louisville Assembly of God.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Brenda Smith and Cheryl Smith; son, Daryl Smith; three grandchildren, Tracy Runnels, Kelly Garrison, and Jason Smith; four brothers, Woody Thomas, Charlie Thomas, Bobby Thomas, and Raymond Thomas; three sisters, Hazel Rafford, Murlyne Durden, and Louise Myrff.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Lynne Runnels of Newville, Alabama; sister, Patricia Patterson of Haleyville, Alabama; two grandchildren, Lindsey Sentz (George) and Ginny Spivey (Darrin); three great grandchildren, Zaydee Runnels, Haleigh Bauer, and Emaleigh Bauer; several nieces and nephews.

Windle Douglas “Doug” Shiver

Windle Douglas “Doug” Shiver, 52, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at his residence following an extended illness surrounded by his wife and best friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Glover Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home of Dothan directing. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m., prior to the service.

Doug was born July 27, 1972, in Dothan to Windle Wallace & Sarah Anette Spears Shiver. He attended Dothan High School, a life-long resident of Dothan. He worked as a mechanic and shop foreman at Lafayette Automotive for 20 years, after Lafayette he worked for Toyota of Dothan for 8 years, before a medical retirement. He also worked as a bartender at Houligans. Doug enjoyed working on cars and his boat. When not working, Doug spent time at the lake boating, grilling out, and spending precious time with his family and friends. He was lovingly called Doug, Dougie, or Dougie Fresh.

He is preceded by his parents, Windle Wallace & Sarah Anette Spears Shiver.

He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Samantha Shiver; his two children, Joseph Everette and Kaitlyn Everette; his sister, Michele Patterson (Earl); his brother-in-law, Allen Baxley; his mother-in-law, Kaye Blocker (Mark); his father-in-law, Randall Baxley (Debbie); and his two sisters-in-law, Tisha Bruner (Jeremy) and Brandi Moe-A-Soi (Terry); his niece and nephew, Madelyn Patterson and Conner Patterson; his best friend, Chris Dukes; a very special family friend and caregiver, Shannon Hudson; and his beloved K-9’s, Chip and Sassie; along with numerous friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Flowers Hospital 4 South and Vitas Hospice Care for the love and care shown to their loved one during this difficult time.

Bobby David Meredith

Bobby David Meredith, age 84, a resident of Slocomb, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Glover Funeral Home with DJ Rollan officiating. The family will receive friends following the services.

Bobby was born in Houston County on April 2, 1941, to David G. & Zelma Doris McCallister Meredith. He worked as a truck driver for over twenty years. After he retired, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He spent his days on the land riding the tractor and lawnmower, tinkering with anything he could put his hands on and fixing cars. Bobby loved his family passionately, especially spending precious time with his grandchildren.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Annie Laura Hutcheson; his great-grandson, Tripp Donaldson; and his son-in-law, James Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Loretta Meredith; daughters, Lisa Hoffius (Peter), Michelle Chavis (Donald), Barbara Smith, Beckie Donaldson, and Regina Meredith; brother, Benjamin Meredith; half-brother, Davey Meredith; grandchildren, Madison Grace Hoffius, Austin Hovey, Andrew Hovey, Heather Williams, Justin Smith, Eddie Donaldson Jr., Jennifer Donaldson, Tyler Beard, and Tristan Beard; great grandchildren, William James Smith, Smith Williams, Anna-Leigh Williams, Lane Donaldson, and Everett Donaldson; three step-grandchildren, Cassidy Chavis, Jordan Wells, and Abigale Chavis; along with numerous friends.
