UPDATED @ 4:04 PM. 12:18 PM Structure Fire – Fully Engulfed – Occupied – Houston County – Child Fatality

AVON-HOUSTON COUNTY:   09:58 AM    Houston County 911 dispatched a structure fire at Oakdale Trailer Park, 7147 East Highway 84 in Avon. Behind old Mim’s Truck Stop.  At time of dispatch, fully involved, infant inside residence.

Responding to the scene, MULTIPLE Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Ashford Police, Cowarts Volunteer Fire, Ashford Volunteer Fire, Ashford Rescue. Mutual Aid response, Webb Volunteer Fire, Lovetown Volunteer Fire, Dothan Fire and Pilcher Ambulance.

Houston County Sheriff Deputies were advised possible two children inside. Responding Houston County Sheriff Deputies reported heavy smoke from Bluff Springs Church Road.

Houston County Sheriff Deputies were first on the scene. The deputies took every fire extinguisher they had attempting to combat the fire and gain access to the children. Flames were out of the room where there infant was on the Deputies arrival. They did all possible, and fireman did all possible to reach the infant child on time, but they were unsuccessful. They second child thought to be in the fire was located and accounted for. The residents were transported by Ashford Rescue and/or Pilcher Ambulance. A volunteer fireman received minor injuries.

Let me stress, the Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Volunteer Fireman risked their lives and gave it everything humanly possible to reach this child. The Houston County Sheriff 911 Dispatchers did an outstanding job in rolling all resources needed in an effort to save this child’s life.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza, Chief Deputy Jeff Carlisle, Major Bill Rafferty, CID Lt. Anthony Hatcher, CID Sgt. Brandon Barnes, Sgt. Austin Nowell – one of the first to arrive on the scene and attempt entry, Cowarts Fire Chief Roger Nall, Fireman Jonathon Nall who was holding a wet rag on his face where he received heat exposure, Ashford Fire Chief Jimmy Posey, Ashford Fireman Jeff Posey, Ashford Fire/School Board Chairman Mark Kelly, D2 Commissioner Tracy Adams, among some on the scene. Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd responded.

Houston County Sheriff Criminal Investigation Division is in charge of the investigation. The Alabama State Fire Marshall will be notified and respond to investigate.

UPDATED @ 4:04 PM

RSN reported an infant. Houston County Sheriff Sgt. Brandon Barnes issued a press statement and the fatality victim is a 4 year old child. When the call was dispatched it was dispatched as infant. RSN took scene pictures but held the article from 10:00 AM until after noon when posted. RSN did not ask questions on the scene because everyone was busy and the responders, as you can imagine, were heartbroken as not being able to save the life of just child. This is not the outcome anyone involved in emergency services desire.

The reason I, Rickey Stokes, does not ask questions is because I have been Coroner and currently Deputy Coroner in Dale and Henry County. Have offered to assist Robert Byrd. And when on the scene as Deputy Coroner I do not cover it as news. A different hat. But from experience I know everyone is busy and I do not ask questions. And while I have worked child deaths, it tears everyone involved up and I had no desire to hang around unless I can offer some assistance.

Houston County Sheriff Deputy Sgt. Austin Nowell and Houston County Sheriff Deputy Juan Uriarta were the first two on the scene. They emptied every fire extinguisher they had and did all possible to enter and rescue the child from the fire. But for reasons we will never know, GOD’S plan was different than humans. And we can not question GOD’S plan. All that can be cone is use the training and tools given, and with every ounce of energy and knowledge do your best to save lives. And being first on the scene Sgt. Nowell and Deputy Uriata did that this morning. THANKS to all who responded and tried.

7:06 PM City of Taylor Police Update – WILLFUL NEGLECT OF DUTY ON SITTING CITY COUNCIL

7:06 PM City of Taylor Police Update – WILLFUL NEGLECT OF DUTY ON SITTING CITY COUNCIL

TAYLOR:      7:12 AM    Houston County 911 dispatched Taylor Volunteer Fire Department, Rehobeth Fire-Rescue, and Houston County Sheriff Deputies to a motor vehicle accident with injuries, at 495 Rice Road in Taylor. This was an IPHONE crash detection. There were NO Taylor Police Department Officers on duty to respond. While there was no wreck found on arrival, Houston County Sheriff Deputies had to respond because no Taylor Police on duty as a direct result of Taylor Mayor Robert Lamb’s actions 45 minutes after taking the Oath of Office and the APATHY of the sitting council members for the City of Taylor.

12:21 PM   Houston County 911 dispatched Taylor Volunteer Fire Department, Rehobeth Fire-Rescue, and Houston County Sheriff Deputies to a motor vehicle accident with injuries, 4930 W. State Highway 52 in Taylor. This is the shopping center where Annie Pearl’s is located. The reports to 911 the accident involved a scooter and a vehicle. On arrival the gray vehicle was not involved. There were NO Taylor Police Department Officers on duty to respond. Houston County Sheriff Deputies had to respond because no Taylor Police on duty as a direct result of Taylor Mayor Robert Lamb’s actions 45 minutes after taking the Oath of Office and the APATHY of the sitting council members for the City of Taylor.

Taylor Volunteer Fire Department is a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) non profit entity and is not a division of the City of Taylor. The Mayor and City Commissioners have zero authority of Taylor Volunteer Fire Department. The Fire Chief and Fire Department attempt to work with the City of Taylor.

In a common plan, scheme and design of Robert Lamb following his election as Mayor was to terminate James Brazier as Taylor Police Chief. On November 3, 2025 at 8:00 AM, the Oath of Office for Mayor of Taylor was administered to Robert Lamb and he officially became Mayor of Taylor. At 8:45 AM, with Taylor Magistrate Ann Baxter and Taylor Prosecutor Gary Maxwell in the Magistrate Office, now Mayor Robert Lamb called Taylor Police Chief James Brazier into the office of Magistrate Ann Baxter and terminated James Brazier as Police Chief. Brazier left the Taylor Police Department on foot, walking. He was given a ride home by Rickey Stokes who had remained because it was common knowledge Robert Lamb’s intentions were to terminate Taylor Police Chief James Brazier as soon as he was sworn in. And that common knowledge became a reality.

Former Taylor Police Officer Tim Miller, who is a former Dothan Police Officer, former Ashford Police Officer, former Jackson County Sheriff Deputy, former Taylor Police Officer and current Columbia Police Officer was present at the swearing in of Robert Lamb as Mayor. Miller remained at Taylor Police Department/Taylor City Hall until about 10:35 AM. Miller is reported to have said he wanted to see Taylor Police Chief James Brazier get fired. Sources have said Taylor Mayor Robert Lamb wanted Tim Miller as Police Chief because they were friends.

TO DATE, the Taylor City Council has not approved the termination of James Brazier as Taylor Police Chief. If Mayor Robert Lamb has appointed an Interim Police Chief the Taylor City Council has never approved that action since the November 3, 2025 Mayor Termination of Taylor Police Chief James Brazier. According to APOST ( the accreditation agency of law enforcement officers in Alabama ) upon the vacancy of a Police Chief someone has to immediately be named Police Chief. Failure to do so could mean forfeiting a municipal police department. Rumor are that Mayor Robert Lamb named the former Samson Police Chief who is a Geneva County Deputy as Interim Taylor Police Chief, but that action has never been formal in a Taylor City Council meeting.

The four sitting members of the Taylor City Council has been committing WILLFUL NEGLECT OF DUTY in not forcing the re-instatement of Taylor Police Chief James Brazier approving the Mayor’s termination of Taylor Police Chief James Brazier, and if terminated their failure to approval the naming of an Interim Police Chief.

Former Taylor Mayor Billy Snell has had the City of Taylor in sound financial condition. Based on Taylor Mayor Robert Lamb’s actions and the Taylor City Council WILLFUL NEGLECT OF DUTY that sound financial condition might go to Taylor Police Chief James Brazier.

RSN is not picking on Taylor. Just stating facts and if anyone cares to debate them – I will open the camera and allow it.

NOTE:   There is a regular Taylor City Council Meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 6:00 PM. I have a conflict if another meeting that I have to attend but will have someone at the meeting to record it. Just wanted it clear as to why I personally will not be at the meeting.
