SLOCOMB: 6:29 PM Geneva County E911 dispatched Slocomb Fire Rescue, Fadette Volunteer Fire Rescue and Malvern Volunteer Fire Rescue to 701 E. Lawrence Harris Highway for a fire in a production commodities warehouse.
While responding and based on information provided by Geneva County 911 and arriving units Slocomb Fire – Rescue Chief Kyle Hovey mutual aid requested Rehobeth Fire – Rescue to be dispatched. One reason for Chief Hovey’s mutual aid request of Rehobeth Fire – Rescue to be dispatched is Rehobeth Fire – Rescue has a ladder truck.
Chief Hovey, who as Fire Chief attempts to stay informed what businesses have, cautioned responding units of forklifts inside with propane tanks and urged the fireman to exercise caution, Also Chief Hovey knows where the fire hydrants are located and instructed incoming fire engines of their specific location and what to connect to as they arrived.
Slocomb Engine Company 4 arrived on scene and gave a BIR ( Brief Incident Report ) which provided specific details. Some of those details, a commercial metal building, single story, smoke and flames visible and top include, heavy blackpressurized smoke visible from approximately 20,000 square-foot warehouse.
Slocomb Fire – Rescue made forcible entry into the building. Slocomb Fire – Rescue and incoming foreman from responding departments made an interior offensive attack on the active fire. The fireman located several tons of peanuts and pallets on fire.Fire crews wereable to extinguish the fire.
The City of Slocomb local street department responded with their backhoe to assist the owner of the warehouse in removing smoldering products. No one was injured.
Slocomb, Fadette, Malvern, in Geneva County, Rehobeth, Taylor, Bay Springs and Southern Junction in Houston County and Wicksburg in Houston County, all border each other as does Hartford. Each department views county lines for political people and not for emergencies. And they all assist each other.
Geneva County depends on the municipalities for emergency EMS coverage and Geneva County supports the EMS to only $ 1,000.00 per year. Slocomb Fire – Rescue staff is comprised of paid and volunteer, but they handle both fire and EMS services and all are trained in both fire fighting and EMS. Tonight with the active fire of a commercial 20,000 square foot building took their resources. Not wanting to bring Hartford rescue to the east end of Geneva County, and Rehobeth Fire – Rescue having equipment and resources in Slocomb and Rehobeth maintaining coverage for their territory, Mr. Joey Pilcher of Pilcher Ambulance in Dothan dispatched a ambulance crew to Slocomb to stand by in the event any EMS calls came into the east end of Geneva County while Slocomb Fire – Rescue fought the fire.
TO THE CITIZENS OF GENEVA COUNTY AND HOUSTON COUNTY … I probably monitor radio traffic more than most people. I heard this fire when dispatched. In listening to the response, Chief Hovey responding from home, Operations Chief Brandon Hovey responding from Dothan with his family, the on duty and off duty members of Slocomb Fire – Rescue responding from the station and those not at the station from wherever on a Saturday night, adjacent departments responding, Geneva County 911 in management of radio traffic and resources, Slocomb Police and Geneva County Sheriff Department, each of you citizens can be proud of your emergency responders. They do this out of a heart of service, many for free and those paid are paid very little for the emergencies they handle.
DOTHAN: 3:32 PM Dothan 911 dispatched multiple Dothan Fire Engines to a structure fire at 1083 Fountian Street.
On arrival of Dothan Fire Engine Company 1 ( Central ) they reported a single story residential structure, smoke and flames were visible.
Dothan Fire Engine 1 ( Central ), Dothan Fire Engine 5 ( Eastside ), Dothan Fire Engine 9 ( Technology Drive ), Battaion Chief Harrison, Pilcher Ambulance and Dothan Police are on the scene. Dothan Utilities has been dispatched.
This is a working structure fire, offensive attack. There is a verbal “all clear” from the resident which means no one is inside and all persons accounted for.
3:46 PM The interrior search group who entered the fire to double check to make sure no one was inside reported primary search, ALL CLEAR.

DOTHAN: Earlier today Dothan 911 was notified that juveniles had knocked out the rear window of a Dothan Police vehicle.
The vehicle was parked behind Grandview School on Sixth Avenue on the Grant Street side. The car, a 2014 or so Dodge Charger, was one not in active street patrol but moved around as a crime deterent.
Dothan Police were quick on the scene and the two juveniles were located behind the school. Dothan Police Criminal Investigation Division was called to the scene. At 12:55 PM the two juveniles were transported from Grandview to Dothan Police Criminal Investigation Division.
There were no officers with the cars and no injuries.
LOVETOWN: 11:28 AM Houston County 911 dispatched Lovetown Volunteer Fire Department, Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Department Hodgesville Volunteer Department are on the scene of a outdoor fire close to a residence.
The scene location is Gene Terry Road.
The on scene commander, Rrev. Kevin Dixon, has requested incoming units to enter and focus first and primary on the residence.
HEADLAND – KINSEY: 10:52 AM Headland Fire Department and KInsey Volunteer Fire Department responded to 967 Co. Rd. 110 Headland and have been fighting a grass fire growing towards residences.
PANSEY – ASHFORD: 08:15 am Houston County 911 dispatched Pansey Volunteer Fire and Ashford Volunteer Fire to 3170 Pansey Road to a tracotr on fire in the middle of the field.
EMS: All EMS units have had various calls. The most serious was the one in Elba for the firearm assault.
ELBA: 08:28 AM. Coffee County 911 dispatched Elba Police, Coffee County Sheriff Deputies, Enterprise Police to Dorsey Trailers in Elba.
The manager is reported to have been shot in the back by an apparent employee.
The patient is being transported by air to a trauma center.
No more details at this time.

The suspect is identified but still at large. The primary investigative agency is Elba Police Department being assisted by Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd and members of Coffee County Sheriff Department.
The suspect has been identified. UNCONFIRMED information he was an employee who had just been terminated or was about to be terminated.

From various sources and UNCONFIRMED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT … first, the manager gunshot injuries are not considered life threatening.
UNCONFIRMED by law enforcement, the manager escorted a hispanic male employee from the grounds of Dorsey Trailers in Elba. UNCONFIRMED the hispanic male went to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and returned and fired shots over the fence, one which struck the manager in the back.
As of 1:14 PM, to my knowledge, the suspect is still at large.
UNCONFIRMED, but some say that some illegals were employed at Dorsey Trailers. Not saying this is fact, just information that has been provided.
The Dothan Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a person shown in photos released by investigators.
Police say the individual may have information related to an ongoing investigation. Anyone who recognizes the person is urged to contact the Dothan Police Department at 334-615-3632 or 334-793-0215.
Investigators emphasize that all tips can be made anonymously, and the identity of anyone who provides information will be strictly protected.
