Joy Levene Johnson, lovingly known for her gentle heart and deep devotion to family, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 83, in Dothan, Alabama, surrounded by those she loved most. Born on July 27, 1942, in Midland City, Alabama, Levene lived a life defined by love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to her family.
Levene was the cherished daughter of Jesse and Dora Cunningham Godwin and grew up alongside her siblings Thomas, Paul, Myrtie Pearl, Lillian, Agnes, Sue, and Peggy. Though they preceded her in death, their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
She shared 67 beautiful years of marriage with the love of her life, Allen Kenneth Johnson. Together, they built a home rooted in faith, devotion, and unconditional love—a home where family always came first. Their love story was one of loyalty, patience, and quiet strength, serving as a lasting example to everyone who knew them.
Levene was a proud and devoted mother to her two sons, Allen Johnson and Greg Johnson, who were the greatest joys of her life. Her love only grew as her family expanded to include her grandchildren—Samantha, Amber, Ashley, and Miranda—and her treasured great-grandchildren, Harper, Londyn, Shaelynn, Kyler, Emirson, Alaina, and Jameson. She poured her heart into each of them, offering comfort, wisdom, and a love that never wavered.
Beyond her home, Levene shared her caring nature with her community through her work as a school lunch lady. She had a special way of making children feel seen and cared for, serving every meal with warmth, kindness, and a smile that made even an ordinary day brighter.
Levene found happiness in the simple things—family gatherings, shared laughter, and time spent with those she loved. Holidays were warmer, stories sweeter, and memories richer because she was there. Her presence had a way of making everyone feel at home.
A celebration of Levene’s life will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 2pm in the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel with burial to follow in Newton City Cemetery. Bro. Andy Wood to officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 4pm until 6pm at the funeral home.

Betty dedicated over 20 years of her life to her work at Dunbarton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie James Barefield and Realy Mae McKee, her siblings, Billy Joe Barefield, Mabel Hutto, Sarah Helen Brannon, Jimmy Ray Barefield, and Buela Mae Davis; her brother-in-law, Tom Davis; and her niece, Wendy Davis.
She is survived by Tony Davis; her four daughters, Amelia Smith (Brent), Tonie Davis (Ronnie), Becky Williams (Jamie), and Marjorie Obert (Austin); and her siblings, Hilton Barefield (Brenda) and Pam Roberts (Stan).
Betty leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love through her ten grandchildren, Jordan, Talia, JJ, Raylena, Elena, Katelynn, David, Bailee, Chelsea and Cade, and Twelve great-grandchildren. She was lovingly known as “Mama” to her girls, “Nana” to her grandchildren, and “MawMaw” to her great-grandchildren.
Betty once said her greatest accomplishment in life was her four daughters, and she lived every day proving that to be true. In her final days, she spent precious time with them doing things she had never done before—flying on a plane, riding a train, driving through the mountains, spending the night in a cabin in the Tennessee mountains, going to a casino, bonfires, dancing, singing, and laughing.
Though gentle in spirit, Betty carried a fierce fire within her. She would give anyone her last dime if they were in need, yet she fought with everything she had for more time with her girls and her beloved furbabies. Gone far too soon, she was a blessing to all who knew her.

Margaret Elizabeth Weathers Dove (Bobbie), was born September 8, 1932 in Dothan, Alabama. She passed away at home in Birmingham on January 4, 2026.
Bobbie’s early years were spent in Dothan with her parents, Jane Farmer and Lawrence Malone Weathers. As an only child for 10 years, Bobbie especially enjoyed spending time with female first cousins, Martha McBryde (Foy) and Miriam Jones (Thomas), with whom she remained close until their deaths. By 1945, brothers Charles and Frank and sister, Alice joined the family at 109 North Iroquois where they shared many happy occasions together. Bobbie attended Dothan High School where an accounting teacher recommended Earl Dove as a tutor to the shy, mathematically challenged Bobbie. Having known each other casually for years, this was the ideal opportunity for Bobbie to better know Earl. They married March 18, 1954 and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where she worked with The Tennessee Valley Authority until Earl graduated with a degree in Transportation from The University of Tennessee. After graduation, Bobbie and Earl moved around, eventually settling in Montgomery. With children, John, Jane, Mike and Amy all born within 2 1/2 years, Bobbie stayed busy caring for her family. She and Earl were active members of First Baptist Church where many dear friendships were made. In 1977, with all 4 children in college, Bobbie and Earl moved home to Dothan where they became active members of First Baptist Church and continued their travels and community activities. Following the death of her sister, Alice Shuff (Ron), in 1980, Bobbie often made the trip to Franklin, TN to visit Ron and his 3 children with Alice. She adored Marla, Ron, Jr. and Jon David and some of her favorite memories were the family Christmas sing alongs led by the musically talented Shuffs. Throughout her life, Bobbie loved to travel and took every available opportunity to show the world to her 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and anyone willing and ready to go. On a boring weeknight, she could plan a trip to London and be packed and on a plane the next morning, with her purse always tucked up under one arm. She never took a camera on her travels, insisting she couldn’t enjoy what she was seeing for worrying about trying to capture a photo. She loved to read, especially mysteries and was always on the search for a new mystery author. Agatha Christie and Miss Marple remained her lifelong favorites. Bobbie loved lunches out with friends and family and in later life, she and Earl especially enjoyed their regular Friday evening dinners with close friends. Southern through and through with a delightful drawl, her life was rich and fulfilling with much love and many highlights, and she was grateful for every minute of it.
Obituary from Holman Funeral Home of Ozark – Ozark, Alabama
Mrs. Lillian Ruth Sasser Tribble, of Umatilla, Florida, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on December 31, 2025, at the age of 102. She was surrounded in body and spirit by her devoted family and was lovingly called “Gran” by many. A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Tribble 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 9, 2026 in Ariton Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.
Ruth was born December 13, 1923, to Fulton and Jewell Sutton McKnight in Dale County, Alabama. Her childhood was spent in that same area around a large extended family. She married her beloved Cager Sasser when she was fifteen years old. They moved to Umatilla, Fl. in 1953. Together they raised four children, two daughters, and two sons. They were married over forty years when Cager unexpectedly died in 1980. Although her heart was broken, God was definitely strengthening her for the many years ahead. She poured herself into ministering to others that tragically lost loved ones and always shared how Christ had lifted her up through those years. And then after some time, God had one more blessing for her in her last marriage to Bill Tribble. They were extremely devoted to each other, and she was able to hold his hand as he passed into heaven. Ruth was known for many things. First and foremost, she was an avid prayer warrior who loved the Lord and who prayed for her family. She was able to see many of them come to accept Jesus as their Savior. Ruth was an excellent cook who could take the most basic ingredients and turn them into something wonderful. She wasted nothing. No Ziplock bags were beyond their realm of use if Ruth was around. She didn’t believe in throwing anything away. Ruth loved to travel and made many friends on her trips throughout the United States. Ruth’s talents in gardening were the envy of many, and you could frequently find her out working in her yard. She found a lot of pleasure in making things pretty. Ruth was a pioneer for women in management and banking as she was vice president of Umatilla State Bank (USB) for many years. She was voted 2025 Umatilla Citizen of the Year for her many years of community involvement and dedication to helping others in need. Ruth was a beacon of love for her family and a great influence in the lives of many.
Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Kyte; her son-in-law, Lamar Tart, and her grandson, Sammy Hipps. She is survived by her son, Sam (Jeannie) Sasser; daughter, Kaye Sasser; son, Ken (Ella) Sasser; stepdaughter, Jody Clark; eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and numerous great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a tax deductible donation may be made in Ruth’s memory to her grandson’s ministry, Trail Servants, P.O. Box 82, Louisville, Alabama 36048. A pavilion for hikers of the Appalachian Trail will be erected in her honor.
