Former ALEA driver’s license examiner John Watson had his first bond hearing Thursday morning, where more chilling details were released.

Officials said he sent both child pornography and pornography depicting people of legal age to Alabama leaders.

One package of pornography was sent to Governor Kay Ivey’s office, and three packages of pornography were sent to the House of Representatives. Some packages have not yet been delivered — meaning they are still in mail circulation.

Multiple devices were used to obtain child pornography — 25, if not more. Those devices include cell phones, tablets, CDs, and even floppy disks. Nearly 200 images were found on one device alone.

Investigators say Watson misused information gathered from his post at the Trooper’s office.

Reports also indicate a local young child was possibly involved.

More charges are expected, and the matter is likely to reach the federal level.

Watson was apparently upset about laws which block users from accessing some pornographic sites without submitting identification to verify proof of age.

A Dothan man who resigned from his state government post Thursday is charged with sending pornography to state officials.

John Watson, 54, is accused of sending “suspicious” letters to state officials including Alabama House of Representative members and Gov. Kay Ivey’s office Wednesday, according to state investigators. He was a driver’s license examiner with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Documents from the state court system show him charged with four counts of disseminating pornography; however, the Houston County Jail inmate roster shows Watson to be charged with four counts of disseminating child pornography.

He has no bond.
