Mrs. Mary Hardy Bright of Hartford peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the age of 71.

A heartfelt Celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Hartford Baptist Church, with Reverend Scott Cox and Reverend Bruce Spivey officiating. Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb will be directing the service. The family warmly invites friends to join them at the church one hour prior to the service to share in memories and comfort.

Mary was born and raised in Hartford, Alabama, on April 19, 1955, to the late Wallace and Velma Sammons Hardy. She graduated from Geneva County High School before beginning her college journey at Auburn University. She later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education from Troy University. Mary dedicated 34 years to a fulfilling career with the United States Postal Service, where her commitment and hard work were deeply valued.

Alongside her professional accomplishments, Mary found joy in family life. She married the love of her life, Donald Aubrey Bright, and together they raised two cherished children. Mary’s deep love for God, her family, and her church family was evident to all who knew her.

A talented musician, Mary’s gift was expressed through piano, organ, and her beautiful solo voice. Her warm spirit shone brightly, also reflected in her exceptional southern cooking, through which she lovingly cared for those around her. Mary was a devoted wife, an adoring mother, and a beloved “Nana” to her grandchildren. With a selfless heart and a ready smile, she welcomed everyone into her life, treating friends as family and never meeting a stranger.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sammy Hardy. She leaves behind a loving and grateful family to carry forward her legacy: her husband Donald Aubrey Bright; daughter Jennifer Sellers and her husband Tim; son Daniel Hardy Bright and his wife Kellee; grandchildren Andrew Kimbro and his wife Shala, Garret Kimbro, and Ethan Tolbert; great-grandchildren Annabelle Kimbro, Addalynn Kimbro, Asher Bright Kimbro, Marjorie Kay Tolbert, and Oliver Tolbert; her sister Martha Thomason and her husband Rick; as well as many extended family and friends.

Mary’s life was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved so dearly.
