OZARK…On Friday, April 17, 2026, Sergeant First Class, United States Army, Retired, Gerald Dale Arrington of Ozark, Alabama passed away at home with his loving wife by his side.

Gerald was lovingly known as “Fred” by his friends, family, and comrades—a name that reflected the warmth and familiarity he brought to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph James Arrington; his mother, Edna Ould Arrington; and his brother, Roy Arrington.

He leaves behind his devoted and beloved wife, Mary Arrington of Ozark, Alabama; his daughter, Stacy Murray of Perdido Key, Florida; his niece, Sherry Arrington Trent of Dillwyn, Virginia; and two nephews, Mark Edward Arrington of Burkeville, Virginia and Paul Edward Arrington of Bracey, Virginia, along with extended family and many dear friends whom he deeply cherished and shared countless meaningful moments with.

Mr. Arrington proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring after a distinguished career as an Air Traffic Controller and Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist. He served in Germany for 10 years and was highly decorated and respected throughout his military career. Following retirement from the Army, Mr. Arrington continued his service at Fort Rucker, Alabama with DynCorp, working under top security clearance as a records specialist until his retirement. He graduated from Glenelg High School in Glenelg, Maryland, and later earned his technical degree in drafting from George C. Wallace Dothan, Alabama.

Fred found immense joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments, especially those spent with his beloved wife, Mary. He enjoyed grilling for family and friends, sharing caviar with his daughter, chatting with his niece and spending time outdoors camping, beaching, boating, and documenting wildlife with his love, his wife. He had a deep love for animals, especially birds, and a lifelong passion for helicopters that remained close to his heart.

Mr. Arrington treasured time with his friends and fellow retirees, often enjoying a cold drink while cheering on his favorite team, Alabama football—Roll Tide. Fred had a presence that could light up any room, paired with a calm and steady nature that brought comfort and ease to those around him. His kindness, strength, and quiet wisdom left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Fred was a gentle and peaceful man with a generous heart, always ready to share kindness, laughter, and love. As Leo Tolstoy wrote, “Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love.” Fred lived this truth in the way he loved his family, his friends, and everyone blessed to know him.

At this time, the family has not set a date for a celebration of life. Once all plans are set, family and friends will receive notification.  The family asks for continued love, support, and prayers for his beloved and cherished wife, Mrs. Mary Arrington, during this time. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in remembrance of SFC Gerald Dale Arrington, “Fred.”
