DOTHAN – DALE COUNTY: Retired Dale County Sheriff Bryant Mixon and Retired Dale County Chief Deputy Tim McDonald had a vision decades ago. And they implemented that vision. And that was a helicopter unit.
The vision continued through Sheriff Bryant Mixon to Sheriff Wally Olson. Now Sheriff Wally Olson supported the air unit 100% and beyond, but getting Sheriff Wally Olson into the helicopter, well, you could not even use the taser on him to get him to fly. When Chief Deputy Tim McDonald retired during Sheriff Wally Olson tenure Chief McDonald has continued to this day with the air unit. And now Sheriff Mason Bynum shares retired Sheriff Bryant Mixon vision.
When Will Benny became Police Chief of Dothan, Chief Benny supported the vision of the air unit. And that vision has been shared by the City Manager’s under Chief Benny tenure, Dothan Mayor and Commission.
WASP ( Wiregrass Aviation Support Program ) is supported by several communities in the area. Each contributing. And the program has a fixed wing aircraft in the fleet.
At times you have to guess the WASP ( Dothan Police ) helicopter is flying above assisting the ground officers in active patrol over the City of Dothan. They patrol by air and they respond to different calls officers are dispatched flying overhead. They will place the infrared cameras on the ground watching from above reporting to the ground officers what they see. They will follow the suspect in a chase reporting to units on the ground. You might out run the ground black and white, but good luck with the air black and white !!!
They have the ability to put a spot light on the ground to shine overhead on a call or a bad wreck.
Sometimes when you see the helicopter in the air, there is not anything in particular happening. They are on patrol from the air just like the patrol vehicles on the ground. Ready to fly overhead in seconds.
A great asset. And something which keeps the citizens and guests safe.
DOTHAN: 1:46 PM Dothan 911 dispatched a motor vehicle accident with injuries, Hartford Highway and Ross Clark Circle.
Reports to Dothan 911 a black vehcile verses a silver vehicle.
While Dothan Police were working the accident on Ross Clark Circle at Prevat Road there was a accident on Ross Clark Circle and Hodgesville Road. There were no injuries reported.
1:56 PM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Fire, Pilcher Ambulance and Dothan Police to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on West Main Street and Foster Street intersection. The accident involved three vehicles.
The injuries and damge was reported as moderate injuries. The accident closed North Foster Street for a few minutes until the wreck scene was cleaned up. No one was transported ( 2:28 PM ) to a hosptial. Dothan Fire Engine 1 ( Central ) and Pilcher Ambulance returned to service.
1:13 PM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Fire Engine 9 ( Technology ) to an outdoor fire, power lines down, at 510 Woodham Road. Reports were the power lines were also down on an excavator. Construction crews were on the scene down work and also reported a utility pole broken.
Alabama Power was the utiity company for that location.
Dothan Fire reported about 2:00 PM Alabama Power was on the scene and power has been cut.
A busy and wet day. FOLKS, slow down, the roads are wet and driving is a hazard.
DALE COUNTY: 1:28 PM Ozark – Dale County 911 dispatched law enforcement, fire and EMS to a motor vehicle accident witn injuries, Dale County Road 34 and West Highway 27.
The reports to Ozark – Dale County 911 there was entrappment. Both roads were closed until the scene could be cleared.
Ozark Police and Dale County Sheriff Deputies responded and I assume Ozark Fire – EMS.

DOTHAN: 12:43 PM Dothan 911 dispatched Dothan Fire Engine Company 4 ( Southside ), Pilcher Ambulance, and Dothan Police Department to a critical motor vehicle accident with entrappment. The location was Ross Clark Circle and Prevatt Road.
Dothan Fire Truck 1 ( Central ), which is equipped with extrication equipment, was responding non – emergency when Engine 1 requested they upgrade to emergency.
12:50 PM Dothan Fire Engine 4 requested a second Pilcher Ambulance respond, emergency.
12:57 PM Dothan Fire Engine 4 reported access made via door to one patient which was trapped.
1:01 PM Dothan Fire Engine 4 reported one patient refused transport, two patients are being transported to a Dothan hospital by Pilcher Ambulance. The second Pilcher Ambulance is being released from the scene. Patients being transported non emergency.
Troy Police Chief Danny Barron announced the arrest of a Troy man on multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a child.
According to Chief Barron, Ronnie M. Christian, 66, of Troy, was arrested on December 17 following what police described as an extensive investigation.
Christian has been charged with:
Two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child Less Than 12 Years of Age, with bond set at $25,000 per charge
Three counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, with bond set at $15,000 per charge
Five counts of Sodomy in the First Degree
Five counts of Rape in the First Degree
The sodomy and rape charges carry no bond, pending an Aniah’s Law hearing.
Aniah’s Law gives judges in Alabama the authority to deny bail to individuals charged with certain violent offenses, including first-degree rape.
Christian was initially processed at the Troy City Jail before being transported to the Pike County Jail, where he remains in custody.
“This has been an extensive and emotionally difficult investigation,” Chief Barron said. “The Troy Police Department would like to thank the Criminal Investigations Division, Pike County Department of Human Resources, the Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center, and the Pike County District Attorney’s Office for their hard work and dedication throughout this case.”
Law enforcement officers are investigating a shooting that left three people injured Tuesday evening at an apartment complex in Eufaula.
According to Eufaula Police Chief Danny Christ, officers responded to a reported shooting at Bluff Park Apartments, located off State Docks Road, at approximately 6:45 p.m. Central Time.
Chief Christ said three individuals were injured in the incident. Two of the victims sustained serious injuries and were life-flighted to an area hospital for treatment. The third victim’s condition has not been released.
Multiple law enforcement units responded to the scene, and the area was secured as investigators began processing evidence and interviewing witnesses. No suspect information has been released at this time.
News Leader 9 crews were on scene as the investigation continued. Chief Christ stated that additional details will be provided as they become available.
