UPDATED D-5 @ 9:55 PM 9:27 PM Dothan Run Off Elections – TUESDAY

DOTHAN:      On Tuesday the registered voters of the City of Dothan in Districts 2,3 and 5 the voters will return to the polls and elect three public servants to serve for the next four years. Two of them, District 2 and 3 will be Associate Dothan Commissioners and one, District 5 will be the Dothan School Board.

DISTRICT 2  RSN endorses Phillip Kirksey, District 2 – Dothan Associate Commissioner. He knows public servanthood during his years as a law enforcement officer. He has the passion of service and RSN feels he will look at District 2 – but with a vision of Dothan as a whole. ELECT PHILLIP KIRKSEY on Tuesday.

DISTRICT 3   RSN endorses incumbent Bradley Bedwell, District 3 – Dothan Associate Commissioner. Bradley Bedwell ran for District 3 Associate Commissioner four years ago. He has kept his promises over the past four years and attempted to be attentive to the citizens of District 3 and the entire City of Dothan. Shortly after his election Houston County attempted to sell the Houston County Farm Center. Realizing the City of Dothan owned 15% of the Farm Center, Bedwell set off to protect the citizens of District 3. He and Associate Commissioners D4 John Ferguson and D5 Gant Pearce developed a well developed plan to save the Farm Center. This stopped the sudden sell of the Houston County Farm Center. Bedwell has not been afraid to vote NO on different issues if he did not feel it was right for the City of Dothan. He stands against raising taxes and firmly stands on the foundation, the Mayor and Associate Commissioners along with the City Manager are to manage the finances of the City of Dothan to stay within their means and provide quality services to the citizens of Dothan.

DISTRICT 5 ( UPDATED @ 10:55 PM )      Ashley Whitfield Davis, District 5 – Dothan School Board.  The Dothan School Board has been in chaos for years. The members just refused to get along. Two of those, who had no children in the school system, did not seek re-election. In this campaign, comes down to two candidates. One has children attending the Dothan City Schools, which is Ashley Whitefield Davis, and the opponent does not. Opponent  J.T. Carroll’s children are 3 and 1 year old and he saus will be attending Dothan CIty Schools when they reach age. RSN – I have nothing against Houston Academy, where J.T. Carroll graduated from, for I attended Houston Academy also. But if you are going to serve on the Dothan City Schools governing board, it just makes sense that your children attend Dothan City Schools. And J.T. Carroll says his will when of age. Ashley Davis has seevral children currently enrolled in Dothan City Schools. The citizens of Dothan are just ending tenures of the majority of the board not having any children attending Dothan City Schools. WIthout children attending you have no vested interest in the decisions made.  Dothan has just hired a new Superintendent and I am hearing good things about him. He needs a School Board, with a vested interest, to work with him and make the Dothan City Schools the best it can be. Therefore we endorse Ashley Whitefield Davis for Dothan School Board District 5.

8:12 PM. Shooting – Stabbing – Suspect Held At Gunpoint – Ozark

8:12 PM. Shooting – Stabbing – Suspect Held At Gunpoint – Ozark

OZARK – DALE COUNTY:      4:42 PM.   Ozark – Dale County 911 performed exceptionally well in a very active afternoon. The staff managed callers to 911 and rapid activity between the Ozark – Dale County 911 Center, Ozark Police Department, Dale County Sheriff Department and Ozark Fire – Rescue.

It appears to have began at 4:42 PM with an emergency call to 409 Dixie Drive Drive in Ozark – male subject stabbed in the side.

Moments later Ozark Police Patrol was on the scene with multiple subjects on the scene. Ozark – Dale County 911 then merged Ozark Police and Dale County Sheriff units together on one channel where everyone was talking together thus allowing all responders to know first hand what was going on.

At 4:45 PM, 2149 S. Highway 231 at Ozark Shell Station, a stabbing victim was at this location.

Ozark Police Patrol then reported possible stab victim and possible gunshot victim, but the location of the gunshot victim was unknown.

A suspect vehicle description was then broadcast. The description was a silver Camry last seen traveling towards WalMart. Further information was the vehicle was occupied ( name known ), possibly had the gunshot wound and occupied by one other person.

Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum was at 408 Dixie Drive in Ozark and was reported to have one suspect, at gunpoint.

Ozark Police Patrol then reported one person detained.

5:15 PM     Ozark – Dale County 911 reported at 289 Dixie Drive, gunshot wound victim, wound to the hip. Ozark Police Patrol on the scene and requested Ozark Fire – Rescue.

RSN has attempted to contact authorities for additional information but have not made contact. RSN feels they have been busy and no time to call.

Heard Ozark EMS transporting a person from Ozark to a Dothan hospital earlier. Do not know if from these chain of events or not.

This happened in the City of Ozark so I assume Criminal Investigation Division from Ozark Police Department is in charge of the investigation. They are assisted by Dale County Sheriff Department.

9:48 PM Reports of Persons With Guns North Oates and Powell Street – Dothan

DOTHAN:     7:37 PM     Dothan 911 dispatched multiple Dothan Police units to the 600 block of North Oates Street and Powell Street to reports of multiple persons with firearms.  This was at Dothan Fast Stop and North Oates and Powell Street.

On arrival Dothan Police Patrol requested Dothan Police K-9 Officers respond.

Dothan Police are reported to have found several firearms. Several subjects on the scene had arrest warrants with Houston County and Kinsey Police. The subjects were taken into custody.

THANKS TO THE ALABAMA LEGISLATURE, led by former Alabama State Senator Scott Beason ( if memory serves me correctly ) and in opposition by Alabama Sheriff’s and other Alabama Law Enforcement, that hands of law enforcement are tied on being able to confiscate weapons.

Dothan Police investigated. Several were transported to jail.

7:00 PM New Downtown Dothan Outside Pavillion

DOTHAN:     This evening about 200 people assembled on North Saint Andrews Street in the park north of the Dothan Opera House.

LOVE DOTHAN – in a plan unveiled several years ago under former Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper’s leadership, Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba, D-1 Kevin Dorsey, D2 Aristotle Kirkland, D3 Bradley Bedwell, D4 John Ferguson, D5 Gant Pearce, D6 David Crutchfield, and then Assistant City Manager Randy Morris, is becoming reality.

The Dothan Opera House renovations was recently showcased in a ribbon cutting. Tonight the park north of the Dothan Opera House in area sitting where former Wells Fargo Bank once sit, the open area arena had it’s first show.

There was one or more bands that played under the pavillion and several vendors along the street. Estimated about 200 persons were on hand for the show.

LOVE DOTHAN – a lot of construction going on. The orange and white stripped barrells all over Dothan in many areas. While a hassle with the barrells, to make progress ther barrells are necessary. In a short period of time the citizens of Dothan will be proud of what they see in and around Dothan.

GREAT JOB. Also note, Ben Matthews, son of Eden and Shane Matthews, a graduate of the Dothan School System, has been the Assistant Superintendent on these projects and has done a magnificent job.

THANK YOU to Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba, Associate Commissioners D1 Kevin Dorsey, D2 Aristotle Kirkland, D3 Bradley Bedwell, D4 John Ferguson, D5 Gant Pearce, D6 David Crutchfield, Current Dothan City Commissioner Randy Morris and former Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper.
