As the Wiregrass prepares for today’s winter storm Dothan Fire and Rescue would like to provide the following reminders for our residents.
• Based upon run volume/requests for services, responses may be delayed.
• Non-emergency requests for service may see extended delays based upon emergency responses and nature of request.
• If you use home oxygen, please check your supply, and contact your provider as soon as possible if you need more bottles. The Fire Department Does Not stock extra bottles for home exchange.
• Stay off the roadways!
• Remember to protect you Plants, Pets, Pipes and most importantly PEOPLE!
• Keep anything that can burn at least three 3 feet from any heat source like fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, or space heaters.
• Plug only one (1) heat producing appliance (such as a space heater) into an electrical outlet.
• Keep portable generator outside, away from windows and doors, and as far away as possible from your house.
A man who was a Dothan City employee and volunteer firefighter died in an overnight fire in Pinckard.
Caleb Green, age 37, was killed on the fire, according to Dale County Coroner John Cawley. He was an employee with the City of Dothan, and he was a firefighter for the Pinckard Volunteer Fire Department..
The fire was at the 900 block of Forest Drive at about 4:30 this morning, Cawley said. Preliminary investigations point to the stove possibly being left on overnight.
Houston Cunty Sanitation will pick up garbage today as normal, but Wednesday’s trash route will be picked up on Thursday. Thursday’s trash route will be picked up on Friday.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning, saying snow and sleet accumulations around two inches are expected. Ice accumulations of one tenth of an inch are expected. The warning lasts until January 22 at 7 a.m.
Governor Kay Ivey issued a state of emergency declaration for all Wiregrass counties, beginning Monday at 5 p.m.
“Alabama, once again, is faced with the potential for winter weather, but this time, for the southern half of the state,” Ivey said. We are anticipating potentially dangerous and uncertain driving conditions in the impacted portions of the state, so I am urging Alabamians to err on the side of caution and limit their travel. Make any necessary preparations now, stay tuned in to your weather forecasts and stay warm.”
