He carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance throughout his life, and those values were reflected in the way he cared for others and met every responsibility placed before him. He was a man who could do many things well, and he was often described as a jack of all trades. More than that, he was the glue that kept his family together, offering stability, support, and a steady presence that brought comfort to those around him.
Tyrone served his country honorably in Vietnam and retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class E-7. His military service was a significant part of his life, and it stood as a testament to his courage, discipline, and commitment to duty. After his years of service, he continued to dedicate himself to helping others through his work. He served as a mental behavior specialist and later worked as the transportation supervisor at Laurel Oaks, where he was respected for his reliability, professionalism, and willingness to do what needed to be done for over 20 years. In every role he held, Tyrone brought a sense of purpose and integrity that left a lasting impression on those around him.
Family was at the center of Tyrone’s life, and he took great pride in the people he loved. He is survived by his sons, Tyrone Hyland and his wife Amanda, Shawn Vick and his wife Angel, and Shelby Vick and his wife Natasha. He also leaves behind his stepdaughter, April Butler. Tyrone treasured his children and the bonds he shared with them, and he was grateful for the joy and meaning they brought into his life.
He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather whose heart was full when he was surrounded by his grandchildren. He is survived by Breyonna Vick, Nico Vick, Kyla Vick, Victor Vick, Kendal Vick, Sauna Vick, Shawn Vick, Paige Hoover and Noah Martin. He also leaves behind his step-grandchildren, Cikia Underwood, known affectionately as Scooter, Tyson Butler, known as Skeeter, Zion Smith, known as Skittles. His great-grandchild, Legend Leggette and step-great grandchild Emory Marshall, known as Smoocher, brought him additional joy and were a cherished part of his legacy. Tyrone loved spending time with his grands, and those moments were among the happiest of his life.
Those who knew Tyrone will remember his warm spirit, his sense of humor, and the way he made people feel valued. He enjoyed going to the flea market, where he liked to browse, talk, and take in the simple pleasures of the day. He also loved his dog, Minnie, who was truly his baby and a constant source of companionship and comfort. In all that he did, Tyrone found joy in family, friendship, and the everyday moments that made life meaningful.
Tyrone’s life was one of service, strength, and devotion. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know him.
