Glenda Carol Dennis, born on December 10, 1951, in Haleburg, Alabama, passed away on May 2, 2026, in Dothan, Alabama, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family, friends, and the many animals she cared for throughout her life.
Glenda was a woman whose life was marked by compassion and quiet strength. She was known for her loving spirit, her gentle heart, and her deep affection for others. She especially loved animals, and cats held a special place in her heart. Her care for them was more than a pastime, as it reflected the tenderness and generosity that guided the way she lived each day. Those who knew her will remember her as someone who made others feel welcome, valued, and cared for.
Glenda attended Wallace Community College and later graduated from Auburn University with a degree in laboratory service. Her education reflected her determination and commitment to learning, and it was one of many examples of the diligence she brought to everything she did. She carried herself with grace and purpose, and she used her talents and abilities in ways that reflected her thoughtful nature and strong character.
Thirteen years ago, Glenda founded Kitty Kottage, an effort born from her love of kittens and her desire to help them find homes. Through this work, she helped countless kittens and connected with people from all over the United States who shared her love for animals. Kitty Kottage became a meaningful expression of who she was, and it stood as a testament to her dedication, her compassion, and her willingness to serve others, both human and animal alike.
Family was at the center of Glenda’s life, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved. She is survived by her husband, David Dennis; her sons, Ben McSwean, Jim Dennis and his wife Terri, and John Dennis and his wife Donna; her daughter, Ann Peters and her husband Tonny; her grandchildren, Katie, Sarah, Mary, Grace, Taylor, David, and Emily; her three great-grandchildren; her brother, Bruce Hall and his wife Marie; and her sister, Susan Bannon and her husband Jim. She loved her family deeply and especially cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy and pride.
Glenda also held dear the traditions and gatherings that brought her family together. She especially loved the times when cousins camped at Lake Eufaula with the whole family, and she orchestrated those gatherings for several years. These cherished occasions reflected her gift for bringing people together and creating memories that would be treasured for years to come. Her family will remember not only the events she helped create, but also the warmth, laughter, and togetherness she inspired.
A celebration of Glenda’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home with Brother Clayton Nowell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Katie Taylor Streit, a resident of Ozark, Alabama, died Friday May 1, 2026, in Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center in Bonifay Florida. She was 86 years old.
Funeral services for Mrs. Streit will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 7, 2026, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Mike Whitman officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until service time.
Mrs. Katie Taylor Streit known as “Mama Katie” was born June 24,1939 in Ozark, Alabama to the late Ervin Huey Taylor and Georgia Mae Wallace Taylor. Mrs. Streit obtained her nursing degree with Troy State University on June 7, 1985. She helped serve the City of Montgomery with the local ambulance service and she worked at St. Margaret’s Hospital. She and her husband retired and moved to Ozark in 1991 to be closer to family. Mrs. Streit enjoyed gardening, pampering her pets, and reading country-western books. Mrs. Streit was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, O.L. Streit and her son, Theldon Byrd.
Mrs. Streit is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ann Byrd; two grandchildren, Tracy Bowman (Jamie) and Ashley Ledbetter (Kevin); and three great grandchildren, Hunter Bowman, Kylie Bowman, and Brady Ledbetter.

WEBB… Mollie Cooper Hayes, a resident of Webb, Alabama, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026, at her home. She was 85.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Center Baptist Church in Webb, Alabama, with Reverend John Holley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Ms. Hayes was born in Laurinburg, North Carolina to the late William Alfred Cooper and Mary Spry Cooper. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked in the medical field her entire life. She had previously lived in Hartford, AL, Malvern, AL, Slocomb, AL, and Ashford, AL, before moving to Webb, AL six years ago. She was an active member of the Center Baptist Church in Webb, Alabama.
Leaving to cherish her memories are her Life Partner, Ronald P Carlton; her daughter, Belinda Hunsucker; her son, Richard Coble; her brother, Zeb Cooper; her eight grandchildren; her fourteen great-grandchildren; and her two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Evelyn Adkison passed away on May 1, 2026, in Ashford, Alabama, at the age of 92.
Evelyn was born on June 17, 1933, in Ashford, Alabama, to Ben and Nolie Lominack. She lived a long and meaningful life marked by faith, devotion to family, and a warm spirit that touched everyone who knew her. She was a Christian and a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where her life reflected the values she held dear. Evelyn was loving, faith-filled, and friendly, and she carried those qualities with her throughout her years.
Evelyn was a proud and devoted Auburn fan and never missed a Saturday game. She had a green thumb and especially loved growing daylilies, finding joy in caring for her plants and watching them bloom. She also enjoyed spending time at Terrace at Grove Park, where she resided and loved to play bingo. Those who knew her remembered her as sassy in the best sense of the word, someone who never met a stranger and always had kind words for everyone. Her outgoing personality made her a joy to be around, and her kindness left a lasting impression on many lives.
Evelyn devoted more than 50 years of her life to her work at J.C. Penney, where she was a familiar and trusted presence until her retirement in 1995. After retiring, she continued to share her gracious spirit through her work at Kennington’s Dress Shop and later at Ward Wilson Funeral Home, where she served as a greeter. In every place she worked, Evelyn was known for her friendliness, her steady presence, and the genuine care she showed to others.
She is survived by her son, Gary Bruce; her daughter, Renay Bruce Reynolds and her husband Steve; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Bruce; her step-son, Travis Adkison and his wife Peggy; her grandchildren, Megan Knight, Heather Brooks and her husband Joe, Jonathan Reynolds and his wife Ashlea, and Katie McNeil and her husband Chris; her great-grandchildren, Anna Claire Brooks, J Cole Brooks, Taylor Mobley and her husband Jerrod, Alea Reynolds, Jonathan Reynolds, Charleigh McNeil, and Barrett McNeil; and her great-great-grandchild, Christian Mobley. Evelyn also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hollan Bill Adkison, whose military service brought great joy to her; by her step-son, Thomas Adkison; by her parents, Ben and Nolie Lominack; her sister, Bennie Merle Jackson; her brothers, Buddy Lominack and Edward Lominack; and by her beloved grandson, Jeremy Bruce. Evelyn’s family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with those she loved and missed so deeply.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Willis officiating. OZARK…Mrs. Sophia Nicole Covington-Bess, a resident of Ozark, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, April 29, 2026, in a Dothan hospital. She was 48.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Greater Sardis Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark with Elder Willie F. Lett, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Rose Baptist Church Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. at the church.
Mrs. Sophia Nicole Covington-Bess, age 48, of Ozark, Alabama, was born on January 30, 1978, to Lillie Jewel Covington-Weeks and Jerry Lee Brown. She peacefully departed this life on April 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and all who her cherished her deeply.
Sophia received her early education at Mamie Thompkins Kindergarten and continued her studies at Mixon Elementary School, D.A. Smith Middle School, and Carroll High School. During her time at Carroll High School, she actively participated in R.O.T.C and Cosmetology, demonstrating her strength, discipline, and creativity.
During her childhood, Sophia spent part of her early years in Englewood, New Jersey, where she attended middle school in the late 1980s. In the early 1990s, she returned to Ozark, Alabama, where she continued her education and formed lifelong friendships and treasured memories.
Sophia was blessed with her firstborn son, Christopher Raheem Covington, in 1993. On November 20, 1995, she was united in holy matrimony to Benjie Marcellous Bess, Sr. From this union, two sons were born: Benjie Bess, Jr. and Tyrese Kevon Bess.
Sophia was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend. She loved deeply and wholeheartedly, and her presence brought warmth and comfort to everyone around her. Her unwavering love for her family was evident, and she treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Jewel Covington-Weeks; her father, Jerry Lee Brown; two unborn children, Baby Angel No. 1 and Baby Angel No. 2; along with a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and great-grandparents.
Sophia’s legacy of love, strength, and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her stepfather, Fred Nance; her husband, Benjie Marcellous Bess Sr., her sons, Christopher Raheem Covington, Benjie Bess Jr. (DaNeisha), and Tyrese Kevon Bess; her stepdaughter, De’siona Grider; her beloved grandchildren, Emorii Grace Blair, Emmanuel Ky’rie Covington, Irie Alea-Rose Covington, Yuri Amina-Christian Covington, Sanaii Yanae Faith Raines, Skye Janae Hope Williams, and Kayden Lanier Arnold; sisters, Shanika Crittendon, Lamekia Campbell, and Felicia Covington; brothers, Jeffery Covington (Priscilla), Willie B.
